CW: Illness, Death, Suicide My mom killed herself yesterday, and I helped her do it. This was all legal and aboveboard, with the assistance of her doctor in acquiring the medication, and a nurse and social worker were on hand. She had ALS, and was dying by inches, and she was getting close to the point where she couldn't talk or use her hands anymore. I prepared the medicine, and she drank it down. A few minutes later, she was asleep, and a few hours later she was dead. I'm so sad to have lost her, but this was a better death than any other would have had further down the progression of ALS. There were no good choices, but I'm glad I could support her in doing what was right for her. I'm still kind of numb. I've had my whole life with her in it, and less than a day without her. I don't even know yet what I'll miss the most.

I'm truly sorry to hear that. We are never ready to say goodbye. Hope you're doing alright and glad your mom was able to find peace.

This past month has been both wonderful and dreadful. My first child was born, a son, and fortunately he is healthy and normal minus some early jaundice treatment. Taking care of a newborn is pretty rough, but it's been made much rougher by the fact that earlier this week I came down with Bells palsy for unknown reasons, leaving the right side of my face just about completely paralyzed. It's supposedly likely to go away on its own over the course of a few weeks/months, but it's terrifying to think that I could be stuck like this forever. I'm fortunate that the impact on my resting face wasn't too severe, but it's made my smile lopsided and kind of alarming, so I don't want to smile at my son with my creepy face and scare him.

So this weekend, I'll be dealing with these things.

I received my Steam Deck a day early and am loading it with games. I'm using syncthing to handle my saves for Bethesda games because 1. You can just download the binaries and set up a user systemd service and 2. The save strictures with Wrye Bash are crazy. I can play Oblivion with freaking motion controls! I want to get OpenMW, Fallout New Vegas, and a bunch of other smaller games set up on it this weekend and start tweaking settings.

I went to the mall for pants and shoes, because I wanted to complete a set on some jeans and get some shoes that are more business casual than dress shoes. I got a pair of Skechers that have a huge heel lift, which has always been uncomfortable for me, so I said screw it and got a pair of Lems Nine2Fives that I've always wanted so I'm at least not just wearing black shoes at work all the time.
