What did you do this week (and weekend)?

As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!

I've been neglecting a lot of hobbies because we've been moving house, so I carved a bit of time and shot 18 holes at the local disc golf park. Shot a +4, which is not good, but not as bad as I was expecting after mostly not practicing since last summer. Strangely, my putting was what was quite bad - last year, I had a bad case of noodle arm and couldn't hit the circle (ie. get close to the basket) for the life of me, but this whole round I was putting it in the circle and then 2-putting. For the second 9, I was joined by an older fellow who was delightful to chat with.

We got the new bedroom furniture that we had ordered and I spent a bit of time putting that together. We bought a king, then cancelled it and bought a queen, then cancelled that and bought a king, then regretted the king because it overhangs a wall by a few cm. Ah well.

I had the distinct experience to give a speech at a funeral for my aunt and uncle. It wasn't my speech, it was my dad's; he asked me to give it because he is in the hospital and wasn't well enough to speak. So that's a particular brand of shit sandwich that I wasn't quite ready for. My dad's been in the hospital for almost 2 weeks, but at least we finally have a diagnosis: he has Immune thrombocytopenic purpura, which is a blood disorder. What a week.

My OLKB Drop Preonic bought the farm so I got a Quark^2 board to drop into the case, but I miscounted the number of keycaps I ordered and the last few are on the way. I have my initial firmware set up for it, at least, but had to completely disassemble the thing because it came flashed with a useless keymap. I at least got it up to snuff for a basic Preonic style configuration and will be reporgramming it further this weekend.

I actually worked! My bosses all stressed that for the new hires on this team we should embrace the fact that we aren't doing much, because there'll be plenty of work when they rotate us into projects. But the problem I have is I can't sit knowing I'm being paid, and think many people can learn by observation, but doing really reinforces it, so I got to help take meeting notes at least, and then help the project managers track some plan line items. It was fun. I also got a lead on a project I'll be going to, which seems interesting, but due to the arena I'm in (M&A IT integration, basically) there's a lot of meetings on a need-to-know basis, and I don't need to know yet.

I tried and failed, repeatedly, to reset my Windows 11 installation because I couldn't do virus scans. It turns out user accounts don't have access to Defender or something, because the admin account does.

On Sunday, my partner and I took the three dogs out to the Outer Banks and camped in my travel trailer for a few nights. My partner had never been, so we checked out the Wright brothers memorial where the first airplane flight took place, which was neat (and smaller than I remember it being as a kid). We had some really good food and drinks up near there. We came back Wednesday morning, and Thursday my oldest dog1 went to the vet for a dental cleaning. It ended up being a bit of a fiasco—four teeth pulled, with a few more that need to be done in about a month. Her tongue also has something wrong with it, but the vet is hoping that the antibiotics will help clear things up.

I had some spare time on my hands, so I made a couple quizzes on Sporcle out of boredom this weekend, that was kind of interesting.
