I'm excited and thankful to have an invitation here too. I wasn't anywhere near as active or as involved with reddit as you were but I have been on the site for over a decade. Needless to say it had a big influence on me and there is a big sense of loss as I transition into Tildes and other platforms, but I'm excited and it feels refreshing here on Tildes.
I hope things do grow and I find or maybe make new communities to keep up with hobbies and politics. Thanks all!
Real life communities can be taken away too. =..= But we can go down with a bigger fight and have more physical things to when that happens. And like the migration to tildes and Lemmy etc, we can...

It helps to talk about things with people from the same background, people who get it.

I don't think Reddit will "die" immediately. Nor anytime soon. It'll suffer the same fate as Facebook or Myspace. I'm just happy to be somewhere like Tildes and hope to see it grow naturally.

If you want to help keep this crazy contraption in the air, I suggest checking out a few threads like the Knights of New call to arms, as well as the new users threads which are full of other links to useful stuff about navigating around these parts. I've only been here a week or so and it's been a huge help to pop into those threads.

EDIT: I should clarify that the documentation isn't totally my work. Deimos wrote parts of it (of course). And I think one or two people have tweaked minor sections since I wrote them a few years ago. But the majority of the text is mine, I also edited some parts that I didn't write - and I designed the structure and page hierarchy.

I've done a tiny bit of doc writing at work and, man, it's soul crushing thankless work that was dealt to me because I'm junior and nobody else wants to do it. And they don't because they know no one is going to read them anyway ;_;
But the tildes docs were actually very enjoyable to read: the ideals of the site are very clear, and the doc is there to welcome and invite actual humans as opposed to writing to gatekeep, or inane writing that's just there to "cover one's butt" or blow smoke up our eyes or over promise features so tildes can get VC'd or something. It's just....nice and refreshing. thank you for your hardwork
Ironically, I sort of enjoy writing documentation - just like some people enjoy writing computer code. In both cases, they're activities that some people get paid to do: they're "work". But...

And, seeing as I can't write computer code, this was my way of contributing to Tildes. :)
Nov 2006 I signed up for reddit, when it was a new niche thing that popped up on digg. It was a long run, but I don't think it was healthy anymore. Here's to hoping this will be a nice community...

@deimos, I think chocobean just found our best possible Tag line for this project.

I have been on Reddit for 8 years, and pretty active, but never to the point where I was a mod anywhere. I was really glad to receive an invitation (:

Welcome!
Been a Reddit (Apollo) user for 7 years and this feels like being in a big, new city; excited to see what this place can become.
