Have you ever had any paranormal or unexplained encounters?

Disclosure: I am a skeptical and science-minded person with an interest in paranormal encounters. Does any of this stuff actually exist? I don't know, but I do know that I find it interesting when people share their first hand encounters of things that they can't quite explain.

One thing I loved about Reddit is that it was a treasure trove for paranormal stories, and it is a shame those stories will be lost to the sands of time.

Please feel free to share any stories you might have experienced firsthand, or even share stories from others that you think fits the mark.

Talk rules:

  1. Share stories or reply to others.
  2. Skepticism is welcome, just don't be a dick.
  3. True stories only. This isn't a thread for creative writing or 'campfire' stories.

When I lived in San Antonio, my roommate, a friend, and I were BBQing on the back porch at night. We saw what we thought was a shooting star. As we were watching it, it did a 90° turn that an ecto-sketch would be envious of. I'm sure there are thousands of explanations, distance, the curvature of the earth, etc., that would explain it as an optical illusion, but living so close to the Air Force base and seeing a lot of air shows the maneuver appeared unnatural/impossible at the speed it was going. Compared to what I've seen previously in current air craft.

I'm a skeptic, while I believe there is intelligent life out there somewhere aside from Earth just due to the vastness of the universe I struggle to believe that they've ever visited us. I tend to believe that UFOs are potentially experimental military or private aircraft or some form of natural phenomena.

However, I had an odd encounter coming back late from work one night while I was still living with my parents in my early 20's that I can't explain.

I used to cut through the primary school across from my parents house to get home quicker from the train station and as I was walking through the school I noticed a dark object hovering maybe 200ft up in the sky. It was quiet enough at this time of night (8:45pm-ish) and close enough that if it were a helicopter I'd have heard it but it was emitting no sound. After maybe 5-10 seconds sitting stationery the object moved off very quickly in a straight line where I lost sight of it.

I do live about 10 minutes from Bonnybridge, which is famously a huge UFO hotspot in the UK and one of the largest in the world so you never know, possibly some strange weather phenomenon, an experimental aircraft or maybe we are in fact not alone.
