It's a medical imaging web app. It distinguishes itself from most current software by taking raw MRI data and constructing 3d video that is manipulatable by leveraging AWS it avoids the need for servers with strong GPUs in each hospital to do so and instead we provide them with a small server that handle stripping protected health information when leaving their network and reapplying it when coming back. It also uses ML to segment out the ventricles of the heart and detect cancer in the liver and lung (I work on the Oncology module).

We already support CT. Ultrasound is on the roadmap I imagine but we're taking a really pragmatic approach to what we support. E.g., we started with cardiac blood flow because that was an incredibly difficult problem, then we moved onto oncology of the liver and lung because those are where the most common or most lethal if not caught early cancers tend to be. Once those are locked down we will move to the next thing, I'm not sure what that may be yet.

I work mostly on the user interface and middleware, we have data scientists and mathematicians that work on the really complicated stuff. It's mostly fun to work on but I joined the company during a time when we're moving from a start up to small business. We've only recently split off into teams rather than everyone works on everything and it's not quite understood that refactoring one aspect the codebase has serious consequences to another teams work yet. Wrangling in the cowboy coders that have never been through the transition before is a chore but we're getting there.

Last full week of school for me! Basically just a bunch of BS that teachers are making us do so that we have a reason to come into class. Personally, i'm looking to send out a bunch of job applications, and prepping for doing SAT's and other miscellaneous stuff in my academics. Also gym. Lots of that.
I already posted about my work week, but personally, this Thursday is the 4-year anniversary of losing my dad to cancer (non-Hodgkin's mantle cell lymphoma). So there's a bit of a funk there.

While congratulating myself for getting to the platform on time for the 6am train (I usually take the 6:15), I noticed I forgot my glasses. As it would be absolutely senseless to go to work without them, I got off the train, trudged back up the hill and got them, got back in time to watch the 6:15 leave and had to catch the 6:30. It's been getting progressively worse from there.
Updating CUDA on a ML cluster we have so that the researchers can use a newer version of TenserFlow. Other than that, working on my other automation projects and browsing Tilde and Reddit :p

A boring, but comfortable and sensible, 2014 Skoda Superb estate. It's a blue one. Not an exciting drive but it's pretty refined and stately, plus very light on fuel and (hopefully) very reliable....

And yeah, not a bad week, depending on how much I get done in it.

Other than that, looking forward to the weekend for E3 and going to my first MLB game on Saturday. After work I hope I can play some Overwatch and relax.
Ton of new work responsibilities. Trying not to tired myself out today at hockey. Getting over things. Treating myself to a new trip to Portland this weekend though.

Unittests and merging branches :( Getting close to merging a huge feature branch with master, it will be a huge relief when we get that landed.
Whats the software do?
It's a medical imaging web app. It distinguishes itself from most current software by taking raw MRI data and constructing 3d video that is manipulatable by leveraging AWS it avoids the need for servers with strong GPUs in each hospital to do so and instead we provide them with a small server that handle stripping protected health information when leaving their network and reapplying it when coming back. It also uses ML to segment out the ventricles of the heart and detect cancer in the liver and lung (I work on the Oncology module).
Are you thinking of expanding to other modalities like CT or ultrasound?
We already support CT. Ultrasound is on the roadmap I imagine but we're taking a really pragmatic approach to what we support. E.g., we started with cardiac blood flow because that was an incredibly difficult problem, then we moved onto oncology of the liver and lung because those are where the most common or most lethal if not caught early cancers tend to be. Once those are locked down we will move to the next thing, I'm not sure what that may be yet.
Sounds pretty complicated. Fun to work on?
I work mostly on the user interface and middleware, we have data scientists and mathematicians that work on the really complicated stuff. It's mostly fun to work on but I joined the company during a time when we're moving from a start up to small business. What is it built upon?
The ML for segmentations and nodule detection is done through python and tensorflow, most of the calculations and graphics are done through CPP workers and OpenCL, the middle and client are javascript (though migrating to TS), webgl, and svg.
Very cool!
Pretty shitty, for no reason at all. Just feel very down today.
Those days are the worst. Hopefully things turn around for you, even if it's something as simple as seeing something that makes you smile
I'm sure things will turn around. There are always ups and downs :)
Hey, hope you feel alright. Always here to talk if you need, just shoot me a PM :)
Thank you, nice to know :)

Personally, i'm looking to send out a bunch of job applications, and prepping for doing SAT's and other miscellaneous stuff in my academics. Also gym. Lots of that.
Finals soon?
Already over. Now we just kick back and wait for the end :)
Interesting, school after finals.
Just getting through the work week, I am walking for graduation on Friday and quite excited about that!
Congratulations on the graduation!
Good luck! Hopefully the fresh meat isn't already spoiled
Have fun!

I'm sorry for you loss. Hope you and your family are taking it well.

Aww man, sorry to hear. Forgetting glasses is the worst!

Sounds like a fun job.
I'm looking to make the full switch to Tilde :)
Yeah, it does a reasonable approximation of my dream job
That's great!
Unsuccessfully making company posts on social media, as a social media intern... I actually don't even use social media so I have no idea what I'm doing.
Paid internship? Seems like a pretty garbage job.
nah, it's unpaid, which makes it worse. But I need stuff on my resume while in school so here I am. Need to now find another way to make money though.
I'd definitely try to look for another job. Forget the resume, it's not worth it for unpaid work you don't know how to do. At Least that's my opinion.
I just don't think I could get any software internship or whatever around here. I did this as it was the closest I could get to my discipline and they were extremely kind to make room for me. I feel it would be rude to pull the rug out from under them like that.

Might even do some work if I get the chance. ;)
What model is the car?
Sounds like a good week :)

Nice looking car actually :)

Finishing school (so fun), playing video games. On Friday I'm going to a Def Leppard/Journey concert with a friend, I hope it's good.

Back to regular work/classes after a week-long break... yea, not particularly excited about it.
