    Happy New Year to everyone.

I've smashed through the heartburn, the Christmas food is almost gone and now I'm contemplating my empty bank account and thinking about jumping jobs. My MRI results are back and I have a degenerative disc at S5L1.

What have I done this week? Been miserable internally while the rest of the family were happy as Larry. Smiling outside, down inside. New Years Eve, we hosted a party, I hardly drank, the back pain was excruciating but I smiled through it.

Time to budget. Time to lose weight. Maybe that's not the right thing for this post and I should jump on the mental health one instead.

Naw, it's what you did! Sounds rough, degenerative discs are painful! My mom is a physical therapist and I have a friends with the same diagnosis - as she said to him, it's just going to be management. It sounds like you have a great plan and outlook on it, I just want to validate how tough/painful it is and wish you the best for it!

Unsolicited advice is to find a local pool if you haven't yet. Swimming lets you build muscles without putting pressure on the spine. When my friend got his diagnosis we all signed up for the pool and I remembered how much I enjoy swimming!

I've used the time free from work to continue steadily chipping away at the clutter in our apartment and basement storage. We live only about 0.5h total trip away from a recycling / donations center, which is incredibly convenient. I can just load up as much random junk as I can reasonably carry into two bags and be rid of it within an hour, and that's exactly what I've been doing. After making a whole bunch of trips like that starting back in December, progress is finally starting to be properly visible!

.. that is credits in Elite Dangerous (started playing around 3 weeks ago). Started the day in a T8 and ended it with a T8, T9 and Anacanda plus become a Tycoon in the process. Next Goal: Imperial Cutter and gaining Elite in trading.

My first real experience going pirate hunting was on the 1st, I had decked out the Anaconda with what I can afford and went for a test run... then promptly got my rear handed to me by a lvl 4 threat. Took down 3 pirates (with the help of an elite npc fighter pilot) then this asshat pirate and his friend comes out of nowhere and wipes the floor with me. Took 13 million to get it back - had to sell my Keelback and Diamondback scout and a few expensive parts I was going to put on my T8. I went out without enough to cover insurance thinking I'd be neigh invincible. 😅

I had a bit of a quiet week as I spent it home alone as my family traveled. I didn't join them as I recently got back from a trip to Japan and just wanted some alone time. As my entire team was out of office for the week, I also had a rather quiet time at work and didn't really do much work myself and basically took that time off. I did have a few highlights this week though.

I met up with friends twice for dinner this week. The first time was with my friends from college. We all live spread across the country so our only real communication is through online messaging. Their families were in town visiting so we all decided to grab dinner. It's only been 2 years since we graduated from college so it hasn't been that long but its still nice to see them. The second time was with friends from high school. I've known these dudes for close to 10 years now and we don't get to see each other too often as we're all busy with our own things. However, it was still nice having some dinner with them while my family's away.

I didn't do much on New Year's Eve but I did get myself a pizza and some cake to pig out and celebrate. Domino's had a coupon for a 5 topping large pizza so I basically just got two pizzas I haven't had in a while: a basic chicken pizza and jalapeño and pineapple. I used to knock pineapple on pizza but the sweet and spicy combo of it with jalapeños is nice. For cake, I was initially just planning on getting some cheesecake from my local grocery store as it was already 8pm when I decided to order dinner. However, when I was at the store, I saw that they had this chocolate layer cake from Pepperidge Farm that my family used to get often when I was younger. I got that instead and was hit with this massive wave of nostalgia to 2004 when I tasted it. Was worth the slightly extra price for it.
