What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
I've been going through the onboarding process at my new job, and I'm over the moon to be able to do it! I've been struggling with job satisfaction for a couple years now, and I'm very pleased to be in a position where I can wake up and drive to work with enthusiasm and meet everyone in the office with a genuine smile on my face. Even though I have less time off the clock than I did in a previous workplace, I have so much more energy to commit to the things I want to do outside of work that it's still a net gain.
That's sounds awesome! Onboarding can be a slog sometimes, but if it's already giving you energy instead of taking it away from shiny new job duties, that sounds like a good fit for your skill set
It's a great introductory position to my skill set, I'm more of a client development person than a point-to-point interaction type as is my current role, but I was told in detail how that path is available for advancement. At this point, I just have to keep the wings level and fly right, I've never been so nervous to keep a job!
You're gonna do great! :D
Thank you! I hope to have more good news down the road for a future ~talk post :)
Hung out with my coworkers for a few hours yesterday (Friday). The mil folks held a morale day and they naturally invited us civs out, even though we're furloughed. Technically we're not supposed to be at work events, but it was completely off-site, and we're not working, so the government can screw off. Besides, not like the gov paid for our activities, food, or drink. We paid for it all ourselves.
Afterwards, the co-worker I'm probably coolest with invited me out to lunch, so we hit up a Thai place that he's been telling me I need to check out for a few months now. I now see why he says it's the best Thai place in the area. Strong drinks, too.
All in all it was great to see everyone and catch-up. It's only been 5 weeks, but that's a long time to be gone from work. The mil folks told us they miss us (partly because they have do our work on top of their own work lol) and I definitely miss them. And my civ coworkers. Hopefully I can go back to work soon. Which I think is the first time in my life I've said that, haha...
Plus, it was good to just get out of my apartment and socialize, period. I have my IRL friends who I talk to and game with online most nights. But it's not the same as being physically together IRL. And, again, I'm just at home on Discord. Aside from doing errands here and there, not really getting out. Easy to get cabin fever.
Replaced the fixed position tv wall mount above my fireplace with an adjustable one. Better viewing angles and now can pull the tv out and swing it left or right.
The companion soundbar had been sitting on the mantle. Now it's also wall mounted and the sound quality is noticeably better.
I just got back from a concert, and it was probably one of the best concerts I've been to in a while.
One of my credit cards gives me a bunch of money back if I use Stubhub, and since I just moved to Brooklyn, I've been having a great time at medium sized concerts that are a bit cheaper. So far this month I've seen King Princess, Of Monsters and Men, and I just got back from grandson. I get to watch Joey Bada$$ perform in two weeks too.
grandson is incredible! Would recommend taking a look at a show if you can, high energy and he plays the crowd super well.
Just started an awesome new job. Just bought a new house. I’m surrounded by boxes and can’t find anything and just had my first overnight guest in my new space. I made very yummy food for her and my spouse last night.
Sweet, congrats on the new house! It's so hard to find a home that ticks most of the requirement boxes and be within original budget. And yay you did it and now you've moved in! Any big plans for the new place coming up?
So much! Need to buy furniture, rugs, some construction projects—we want to put a door to outside in the primary bedroom, fence in a dog area. But these will be slow. We will save, do, save, do at a rate that doesn’t incur debt.
Last night (Friday), my co-op threw our annual Around the World party! It's a house bonding type party, where volunteers each host their room, with some kind of activity and usually a drink too. Then we go as a group to each room, getting progressively more drunk and excited. It was a blast, and I really loved being with my people.
I rarely drink, but when I do I usually go full-drunk. And it was super nice, as when I'm drunk I'm much more open about my desire for and appreciation of physical touch and affection. I got some very nice cuddles/hand-holding/forehead kisses that I had been craving but buried for a long time. I honestly wish I knew how to carry that energy into my usual sober life, but I fear the "excuse" of alcohol might do more of the heavy lifting then the actual drunkenness.
[Sidenote: Consent is very important! I'm proud that even at my most wasted I am very conscientious of asking for and receiving consent, and behaving such as not repeatedly asking or some such and taking "no" with grace. The alcohol doesn't make me more "touchy" or anything, it just makes me a lot less scared to ask for the touch I want]
