What did you do this week (and weekend)?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their week. Did you accomplish any goals? Suffer a failure? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
Fairly quiet week at work for me as more and more people are logging off for the end of the year. I've been quietly preparing for my own time off but that is still a short while away. Woke up in a panic this morning thinking I'd lost my passport for some reason because I've been looking forward to this trip haha.
I've also been doing a lot of planning. I want to make more use of my Steam Deck and PC so I've been planning on getting a dock for the Steam Deck to play Steam games from either my Deck or my PC on the TV. The other big thing I've been planning is how to upgrade my home media server. This is probably better for ~comp but I've currently got a small 4TB (3.6 usable) RAID 1 array setup through mdadm and I'm quickly filling it up. I'm thinking about just switching to UnRAID and buying a few 12/14TB drives so that I can easily expand my server in the future. I've chosen a rather unfortunate time for all this as computer hardware prices are skyrocketing and will remain high for a while :(

My parents are coming to visit so I'm excited to welcome them! It's cold in WA state so we'll be huddlin' down and enjoying each others' company.
I'm visiting extended family in the frigid midwest of the US. Good news, I'm for the most part receiving home cooked meals that I don't have to prepare. The home made desserts are fantastic. There are small frustrations related to not being in my own space and not doing my own meal planning. Overall, it's great to reconnect.
Frigid is right. We had -20F here last night. But welcome home.
Man, we've had the weirdest weather this winter. Like only a light dusting of rain and more or less warm temperatures. It's been great for mountain biking, like absolutely supreme conditions, so I've just been leaning really heavily into that. Usually I'll get like 1 bigger ride a month (like driving over an hour to really good trails) but recently I'm getting 1-3 a week. It's been awesome!!! My riding has been going through the roof!
Last weekend we rode at a really fun flow track area and hit amazing conditions only mired a little bit by the presence of a trail crew throughout the entire flow section. That said I really appreciate all the work they do and I'm sure it'll ride even better the next time I'm out there. I tried to talk our local friends into rerunning the circuit tomorrow, but they have opted for a more local ride. Still great, just not quite so epic. There is a slight mismatch in capabilities with the group going tomorrow, like one person near pro levels of ability and one that is still getter their bearings in the sport, but all personalities are mellow so it should hopefully just be a whoopfest. I'm particularly excited to throw down on two of the sections with some bigger jumps and see if all this time on my bike has had the impact I think it has. Particularly the final drop of the trail, it's spits you out like a hotwheels car.
Other than that, we're finally getting so rain so hoping to spend some time getting wet and hiking around in the woods. Maybe even coming home with some porcinis if I'm lucky!
