I'm going to be helping out my association at my uni's open week this week. I just finished the first day today and I'm dead tired. I don't care though because I'm feeling amazing and I have to tell someone about this. There's this girl I've been going out with for a while and it's more or less the most time I've been consistently with a girl, yesterday she told me her parents wanted to meet me. When I asked her why she said "They say they want to meet this person who makes me so happy" and I was so taken aback that for the first time I didn't have any words and I haven't stopped smiling since then.
I feel you dude. I recently hung out with a gal I think is really fuckin neat and we're gonna watch movies and stuff later this week. We've been having a lot of real talk and she told me she...
I feel you dude. I recently hung out with a gal I think is really fuckin neat and we're gonna watch movies and stuff later this week. We've been having a lot of real talk and she told me she thought I was really hot. I haven't received really any input on my physical appearance since who knows when (and bullying's left me with low self-esteem) so this is really nice for me and it's a new feeling

I'm finally getting help. I finally scrounged up the willpower and made a doctor's appointment and went. I'm going to be doing bloodwork tomorrow (dear god I hate needles) to check all sorts of stuff, and I have a psychiatrist appointment Friday. I've been really depressed and dealing with extreme anxiety for a long time now, and have even recently stopped eating. I'm really hoping I can get this all figured out, or at the very least, find a name for what's wrong with me. There's a good chance I could be "normal" again, and doing things won't actively suck the life out of me. If it means I have to swallow 5 pills a day, I can live with that. Anything but this. I'm anxious but it has to be done
Good for you. You don't know me, I don't know you, but know that I'm proud of you for taking the step(s). I want to know how it goes tomorrow. You can respond in here or you can PM me. Either way,...

Is it the needle itself you hate or the pain? If the latter you might want to see if they have a "shot blocker" or pick one up on your way by swinging by a drug store. The little pins on it don't hurt, but they overstimulate the nerves around where the shot is being given and you don't actually feel the needle. If they do blood work on children they probably already have these on hand. We always kept several when I ran physician practices.
I rescheduled it to tomorrow instead, but I'll let you know. I don't know if you're wanting to know the results, or just how it went drawing blood, though. It's a psychological thing. I get super...

It's a psychological thing. I get super squeamish and start freaking out about it. I'm already on edge when I'm in doctor's offices anyway, so it's just a shitshow for me. It's 100% an irrational fear. It doesn't even hurt that bad
No need to share results, just want to know that you're still taking the steps in that direction. Let me know how everything goes tomorrow. You know it's irrational and you know yourself, just...

Thank you for replying, I've been checking here every break we've been given during jury duty. Talk to you soon.

Hey, I just got it done, Since they were testing for blood glucose I had to fast, and since I'm usually unintentionally fasting anyway, it was pretty rough. Thankfully, I had a friend who was willing to drive me and get food after. It's always the waiting in the room that amps up my fear and I couldn't tell if I was shaking from hunger or fear haha. It wasn't quite as bad as it was the last time I did it but the nurse still asked if I was okay lol. I've been using a breathing technique lately to alleviate stress or extreme anxiety, and I used it while getting blood drawn. Inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, repeat. It seemed to help, if only a little bit. This is the first time I've gotten stuff like this done without my parents nearby so it's been pretty daunting but it's done and all I have to do is wait. Thank you for being interested in my journey of being way too scared of mundane things haha
Heck yeah! Proud of you Heichou! It's always the anticipation and waiting that gets to you. Don't think that's something that just affects you, that is something that gets us all from time to...
Heck yeah! Proud of you Heichou!
It's always the anticipation and waiting that gets to you. Don't think that's something that just affects you, that is something that gets us all from time to time. A good technique, if appropriate for the moment, is to distract yourself. Watch a video, listen to some music, play a game on your phone. Whatever suits you best. If you find you can't concentrate on something new, try watching something you know you enjoy. Something that always makes you laugh or smile, something that you know the words, punchline, and every action. You'll be watching it knowing the next line is the one that cracks you up, your mind will stop the anticipation, and the time you're waiting will fly by.
Even if the 4-count technique helped only a little, the fact is it helped. There is no single thing that'll solve it all, it's the little bits that all add up.
Two questions:
What's next? The psychiatrist appointment is tomorrow, they should have the test results by then as glucose does not take long to get results. Anything else on the docket?
So the psychiatrist appointment actually had to be moved to September 18th :/. The doctor's office I went to initially set up an appointment for me on a day they didn't know I worked. So I called...
So the psychiatrist appointment actually had to be moved to September 18th :/. The doctor's office I went to initially set up an appointment for me on a day they didn't know I worked. So I called to reschedule it, and the person I talked to said I could do Friday. Then I received a call from another number saying that the person who I talked to before could only cancel appointments or mark them for rescheduling; they didn't actually have the authority to choose a date. So I managed to hash out a date that was the only open one from Tuesday until a fuckin' month from now (kinda irritated at that but there isn't anything I can do). So now I just have the results of the blood test to wait on to move forward in the physical ailment side while I wait for the mental ailment side to drag its feet.
I told my friend I had never had Whataburger and she incredulously took me there for lunch. I was loopy and am still kind of awkward around her because I'm still not used to being around girls I think are cute, and ordered something that didn't leave a good impression. She assures me I made an incorrect choice and that I'll have to try again. These days I can only eat a little at a time before I feel like vomiting, so I had maybe 3/4 of a burger and some fries. It was a pretty good day all things considered and I really feel like I'm taking charge of my life right now.

On the appointment front: If you're able to arrange transportation on short notice (or even use Uber/Lyft) and have a set schedule at work give them a call back and ask to be put on a call list for any cancelled/rescheduled appointments. Your appointment was rescheduled and so it opened up a slot for another, the same happens with others every single day and they've scheduled you for a day that they know they have an opening. If you don't have a set schedule at work give them a call near the end of the day the day before your day off and ask if anything has opened up for the next day. Do the same again just before lunch time on your day off. It's very likely they'll have an opening sooner and get you in faster.
I'm a Texan. I enjoy Whataburger. It is the best greasy guilty pleasure fast food available, but it's not going to be some mind blowing experience. It's just a damn good burger when compared to the other options. Tip for next time, both for Whataburger and being around a cute girl that is taking you somewhere you've never been: order what they order if it's something you'd probably like. Don't order a pickle flavored pickle infused pickled burger if you don't like pickles, but if it's something that isn't offensive to you just order the same and compliment her on it. "You know, that sounds good. I'll take the same."
I really feel like I'm taking charge of my life right now.
That's because you are taking charge of your life and I'm damn proud of you for doing so. It's not easy, it won't be easy, but it's what you know you need to do.
Keep me posted and I'll talk to you soon. Any updates you want to provide, feel free. Just want to talk? Do so. Want to ask me random questions completely unrelated to this? I'll gladly oblige.

ATM I'm riding a train there, 3hrs gone & 2 more to go. I'll meet some people, see some rentals, see if there are second hand shops cheap enough that I can afford an unfurnished apartment. I've been given some very nice advice on moving out here, and here is some detail on what this move is about.

I've got the dentist tomorrow. It's been over 10 years since i last went and my teeth are a mess. It took a tooth finally breaking in half and then the gum swelling to convince me i needed to go, so i've been in some pain over the past couple of weeks. It's funny everyone in real life is making jokes about how i'm afraid of the dentist but it's not the dentist that is giving me anxiety but walking there as it's in the busy town centre which is what triggers my anxiety. I've also read on the nhs site that molars might need a hospital visit to remove which isn't great.

I had two wisdom teeth pulled out last year and it was basically painless. The only thing I didn't like was that whatever numbing agent they used made my heart rate go way up and they neglected to tell me that. I was sitting there wondering why I was having a panic attack until the assistant came in and checked my blood pressure and mentioned that the stuff might make me feel 'jittery'.
Was it general or local anaesthetic, i've heard they can do wisdom teeth with local these days. I honestly don't mind needles or hospitals and i've had (baby) teeth pulled before under local but...

This is very familiar! I'm also someone who also avoided the dentist for 10+ years (closer to 20 in my case), and chronic pain was what finally drove me to go. Let me share with you that it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I didn't realize how much default pain I was living with constantly until they helped clear up the issues with my gums and teeth. They had hurt for so long I had no idea how it felt to not hurt. I legitimately woke up one morning after I was through with most of the restorative procedures and I cried because my mouth felt normal.
Furthermore, I had no idea how healthy gums would completely change my teeth's temperature sensitivity back to something reasonable. I couldn't drink cold drinks, much less something with ice in it. I had so many cavities that I couldn't eat crunchy things without sharp pains. All of that is gone now. It's beautiful.
I was kept away by severe dental anxiety as a result of some pretty horrific stuff happening to me as a kid, so even though the source of anxiety is different for us, let me assure you that the care you'll receive and the quality of life improvements will be worth it. It won't necessarily be cleared up immediately (I had appointments spanning the better part of a year), but each visit made things incrementally better. I wish you the best of luck with the visit. If you're feeling up to it, let us know how it went. You're doing the right thing!

Just got back, it went ok. I got referred to the hospital to get the cracked tooth removed. There is not enough to grip on to for the dentist to remove. The rest is just a shit tonne of fillings and a cleaning (and a telling off) which i'll get done in a couple of weeks. I'm in the UK so the NHS covers medically necessary for Band 1/2/3 (~£20/£70/£250), i fell into Band 2, so i can't complain.
Glad it went well! Even though the procedures for the fillings were far from enjoyable for me (I'm not sure how they're handling yours but I had to have four different sessions, one for each...
Glad it went well! Even though the procedures for the fillings were far from enjoyable for me (I'm not sure how they're handling yours but I had to have four different sessions, one for each quadrant of my mouth), the results were absolutely worth it. I hope you feel the same way in a few weeks.
Also, as an American, I'm floored by how little you paid for an emergency visit. Our system is so very broken over here.

I have finally a bit of time before my last exam in august, so I give myself some me time.
My projects are changing my bicycle rack, updating the PHP version on my father's website and going to a hair dresser. I also ordered a few things, to start working on my Raspberry Pie Zero, but I have to wait until friday for the last things to arrive.

I'm going to have a nice, easy week.
I've been lucky enough to have traveled A LOT this summer, including leaving my country for the very first time in my life. It was week after week at some points, for work and for family. I'm very grateful for all those experiences, obviously, but it was very exhausting.
So I'm going to use this week to rest up. I'm a freelancer so I've got some busy work I've got to catch up on, but at least I can do it from the comfort of my own office.
I have jury duty tomorrow and I cannot be more excited. I absolutely love legal proceedings and if I could get paid for it I'd sit in court all day. Life got in the way of me pursuing law with...

I have a new (to me) engine for one of my project cars arriving on Thursday, which will be fun to tear down and rebuild for the swap.
Not so nice update in here (death)
And the possibility of a funeral (although it's likely it won't happen until next week) as I found out last night my best friend's brother and wife committed suicide last week and were just found.
And I found out that my ex-wife's father, with whom I was close, is also not expected to be alive much longer.
Add my other best friend's mother and grandfather both rapidly succumbing to cancer and it's looking like it'll be several funerals in the coming months, but that's not this week and I've gone off topic...

Well my birthday is on Thursday, so me and the girlfriend are going to Catalina Island for the day to go hiking and shoot some photos. Other than that, I'll just be working at my restaurant job while searching for an office job to replace it. I've been meaning to learn more programming stuff recently but haven't got around to it, so I'll probably take some time out of each day to learn some more Swift.
I also write for my own personal blog that I recently created, so I might as well populate it with some more content. Nothing too eventful this week besides Thursday, can't complain!

Orientation week for my Ph.D. program! Mostly administrative and networking events for now, but I'm spending most of my evenings reading some research papers so I can have a better idea of where to start on some potential research projects. It's really interesting that I went from being in the majority demographic in the U.S. (i.e. white) to being a minority both in race and nationality - it's definitely going to be a learning experience in that regard. Haven't felt uncomfortable so far, but it's been a bit harder to spark conversations.
Tomorrow I'm planning to check out a nearby climbing gym with a student I met at some of the orientation events. I'm hoping they have enough lifting equipment, since it's too expensive to pay for that and another gym.
Rest of the week isn't too busy, so hopefully I have time to check out some local spots and maybe do some hiking!

I'll be getting ready to finish up a duct job at a canning facility shutdown. I've been doing on site fabrication for the last 2 months and ready to move on to the next job. It's always the anticipation and waiting that gets to you. Don't think that's something that just affects you, that is something that gets us all from time to time. A good technique, if appropriate for the moment, is to distract yourself. Watch a video, listen to some music, play a game on your phone. Whatever suits you best. Two questions:
What's next? The psychiatrist appointment is tomorrow, they should have the test results by then as glucose does not take long to get results. Anything else on the docket?
What did you have to eat afterward?
So the psychiatrist appointment actually had to be moved to September 18th :/. The doctor's office I went to initially set up an appointment for me on a day they didn't know I worked. So I called to reschedule it, and the person I talked to said I could do Friday. Then I received a call from another number saying that the person who I talked to before could only cancel appointments or mark them for rescheduling; they didn't actually have the authority to choose a date. So I managed to hash out a date that was the only open one from Tuesday until a fuckin' month from now (kinda irritated at that but there isn't anything I can do). I think you accidentally made a new top level comment instead of replying to @asep (based on context and comment timestamp).
Ah yes, you're right, sorry. Shall I delete it? (don't want to lose my votes though)
Nah, that shouldn't be necessary. I mentioned asep in my comment, so they will be notified of that comment and so will hopefully see yours anyways. :)
Thanks for the help.

Nice read, thanks for your insight.
I honestly don't mind needles or hospitals and i've had (baby) teeth pulled before under local but the thought of general anaesthetic scares the shit out of me
This is very familiar!
Life got in the way of me pursuing law with intent to be a judge...
This weekend I'll be taking my new fiance out to dinner and going to see Spiderman. I finally picked up her engagement ring so she'll be pretty excited about that!
I am going to market to purchase new novel and will read it.
Do you have a particular novel you want to buy or are you just gonna see what you can find?
I bought random one.
