I have a group of friends that I play video games with, from all over. Every year, for about a week, we have an in-person get together. This year we couldn't do that, so we had a games night in, where we all popped on our webcams, got some drinks, and played some casual games and chatted online for a few hours. Most of the games were of the Jackbox variety, most people were fairly liquored up, and good times were had by all.

Also my immediate family parted our "bubbles" from my parents. My parents are both 70 and have been very careful with Covid; with our kids' return to school, we couldn't reasonably stay in the same bubble. This has been... difficult.

Not much, had a really nice routine going on where I weightlifted one day and went running the other. Got a bit sick while adjusting to the new routine (heard that its not unheard of as your body's energy is going towards adapting to the new form of exercise thus your immune system is a bit compromised), so pretty much I spent the entire weekend sleeping in my bed. Will resume my routine from tomorrow. However the downtime did make me realize how passive I have become, have now added all 'scrolling sites' to my windows hosts file and limited the time on all the apps I used to use on my phone.

On a side-note, am expanding my minamilistic home gym. Was thinking of getting a tyre with a sledgehammer, heard its a good cardio workout. Anybody here have any experience with doing that? Next month am planning on calling a welder to build a pull-up bar as well, will hang rings from that; will open up a lott of different exercises and progressions.

If you can swing it (hehe), install a heavy bag and punch the hell outta it. Now, that's an intense cardio workout that may come in handy some day!

Yesss, thats what I kept thinking for the past 2 days where I felt really shitty, short term I feel awful but long term this is all for the better. What happened was that I basically crashed after coming home from a 5km run, as soon as I came back I had a bit of a flu then the fever and all sort of things. Took ample amounts of rest and sleep over the weekend and I feel better now!

About the heavy bag thing, I have old wrist/shoulder issues that I'm trying to work on right now so I'm kinda afraid of doing it with bad form and aggravating my problems even further. Also the tyre sledgehammer just feels more cool to me :p, if the tyre is heavy enough can put it on my roof and do flips with it as well

Yea, the heavy bag would necessitate some investment in wrist-wraps/boxing gloves in order to protect your hands and wrist. I got these cheater wrist-wraps that do a pretty decent job, though I’m currently punching a pretty light bag and don’t even really need them. Figure the bit of extra weight will make the workout more intense, tho.

Anyhow, if you are concerned about your shoulder.. swinging a big hammer seems like a bad idea? I did some wood chopping with a big axe a couple of weekends ago and the movements are similar. I’ll confirm that it tests your cardio! Just mind your form.

Maybe two weeks back Cuomo went on a rant about NYSEG's abysmal power service and made it pretty clear he was ready to revoke licenses for brownouts and blackouts that were not resolved promptly. Rural NY has a lot of spotty power problems - it really boils down to wind and tree branches, we have a lot of both. NYSEG is notorious for neglecting their lines and it shows because every time there's a wind storm I'm out of power for 2-3 hours. Other parts of the state that could be 2-3 days, not a lot of redundancy built in, so when a single line fails an entire town can be out of power.

Imagine my surprise on Friday when a local landscaping company showed up to trim the lines. This is the first time in 40+ years that this has ever happened... and boy, did they have their work cut out for them. It took them most of Saturday to take down and chip up five full trees and a lot of large branches from others on my property, and they were pretty busy with the neighbors all weekend. Not that they had to take down the trees, but I don't like pine anyway and since NYSEG was paying for it, what the hell. I'm happy to lose them and the lines will be safer without anything growing near them.

Did the final mow while they were clearing trees, cleaned out the garage to make room for a couple ton of wood pellets, topped off the 250 gallon kerosene tank, all set for winter. It's already turned real cold real fast, reminds me of the old winters we had when I was a kid around here. I have a feeling we're in for a proper bout of cold this year. I'm sure 2020 can muster a nor'easter, that's like a layup at the rate it's going.

I'm pretty sure they didn't spot the cannabis plants while they were taking out the trees. Not that hard to camouflage them within other vegetation if you know what you're doing. That's turning a nice little crop this year as well. The cold should shock them nicely, squeeze the last bit of crystal out of them. I've thought about applying for a license once NY goes legal, that stuff grows like gangbusters in this weather as long as you can keep the mold at bay.

I strapped on my painter's mask and went beekeeping in the smoke (I couldn't put off a maintenance visit any more)

Also listened to a Jeffrey Deaver (I think? The Lincoln Rhyme guy) novel. It was actually pretty good!
