On Sunday we had "Kids' Day" which is a family day we observe like "Mothers' Day" or "Fathers' Day" but focused on the kids. We give them small gifts, and let them pick the course of the day. This is not particularly dissimilar to a normal weekend day, but the kids enjoy it. We played games that they like, including a lot of Throw, Throw Burrito which is a lot of silly fun. It's a chaotic card matching game and occasionally you throw burritos at each other.

My son decided he wanted to play some disc golf with me in the afternoon despite it being unreasonably hot. We played 9 holes. The last hole at our local is pretty short (52m) and my son is a fairly athletic 6 year old and had a pretty good drive for a little guy, and landed it about 18m from the basket. I had a bad drive and landed about the same distance, so we had a bit of a face off situation. As he was lining up his long putt, he said, "What'll you give me if I get this in?" I scoffed and told him I'd give him $10 if he threw it in from that distance, feeling pretty confident about it (even pros are pretty dicey from anything over 10m). He then immediately threw it right in and then ran around doing airplane arms. So I walked up to my slightly closer (15m or so) disc and asked him what he'd give me if I sank mine, to which he responded, "I'll give you $20, but I won't have to because you won't make it." And damn it, he was correct. I went home $10 poorer, but with a very happy little guy, so it was ten bucks very well spent. Also the guys behind us cheered when he sank his long putt, which also made him feel about 10 feet tall.

I checked up on a friend who lives in New Orleans to make sure he and his spouse were safe. They had driven to Houston to stay with a friend there, so they're all good. If you have people close to you who are in the path of the hurricane, just give 'em a shout out and make sure they're still in 1 piece! (But also know that power is out for much of the state of Louisiana, so they may take a while to answer.)

I transplanted two bushes from their pots on the back deck: sage and rosemary. I know the latter will be perfectly fine through the winter, but I'm a little less sure about the sage. I did leave it outside last year and it survived, but it felt like a "just barely" survival more than anything. I put them on either side of our mailbox, so maybe people will enjoy the herb smells as they walk by. :)

I participated in a gamejam that required the use of ink, a narrative scripting language that can either export to web or integrated with existing game engine. It was the first time I've completed a gamejam, rather than quit on the last day because I felt I was in over my head so I'm pretty happy about that. It's currently in th voting process and so far, I've gotten positive feedback, so yay!

My twin brother got married. My brothers and I caught up with our cousin for two eight hour van rides, and we got them out to the Pacific Ocean, at Pismo Beach of all places. There were a lot of small clam shells.

Being an identical twin in the wedding party, it was funny having people tell me what I'm doing when I'm not sure of the context only to go "Wait a second..." It happened a few times because, as a groomsman, I still had to walk down the aisle, or be at the front of the venue, so things like "While you're standing up there..." or "When you walk..." Having missed the rehearsal, I thought they were just filling me in on what I was doing until it came down to interacting with the bride up there.

The reception was great. It was in a plant nursery the hotel is sort of partnering with, and they got a free upgrade to it after California got a little more restrictive about indoor masking. It was a really cool setup being surrounded with basically free plant decorations.
