On iOS I have been using Scanner Pro by Readdle. They grandfathered me in for free, so I'm not sure if the current pricing is worth it. There's also OCR Scanner for iOS which is completely free....

There's also OCR Scanner for iOS which is completely free.

On Android I prefer ClearScanner which is free with an iAP to remove ads. It is also available for iOS but I haven't tested it yet.

I wrote a similar article for PCMag back in 2016, and IIRC Scanner Pro was among those I tested. This really IS a case of "find the best fit for your needs" rather than "this is it, hands-down!"...

This really IS a case of "find the best fit for your needs" rather than "this is it, hands-down!" because the features vary so widely.

It's nice to have a product category where none of the options suck!

iOS already has a scanner built into it via the Notes app. I'm fairly sure that Android had one too. These might be better but Apple's is good enough that I never saw a need to look for alternatives.

Right -- but these apps do SO much better at straightening and squaring-up the images!
