It'll certainly help with the issue of people not knowing that they're giving away a ton of information.

On the other hand, people are more and more willing to give away their information for corporate perks: like your typical customer club program.

People want those programs, they ask for them. People are more than willing to give away plenty of personal information to save money.

GDPR gets at those who don't know what they're doing, but the latest statistics from my country at least, show that the younger people are, the more information they're willing to give away. A majority of the under-21s even say they're comfortable with "people selling ads to you based on your inferred sexual preferences"

In a way because no one has presented them with any material downsides for saying “yes” instead of “no”

          • being refused a job because you're <random discriminating attribute found out on your profile> ( though no one will really admit to it due to most laws prohibiting that kind of stuff )
          • insurances increasing your premium because <random search on your favorite medical internet board>
          • higher airplane tickets <because you already searched for them, because you already went there>
          • selling you more and more "comfort" stuff that you don't really need but ads trick your brain into wanting them ( the whole targeted ads are what you want not what you need, at least with non-targeted ads you don't "want" a lot of it )

.... the list is ( most likely ) endless

created https://gitlab.com/tildes/tildes/issues/95 I don't think mentions work yet @teaearlgraycold ( this is a not-so-subtle test ;) ) though maybe Deimos as some keyword alerts.

You don't need keyword alerts when you just read everything! Thanks though, I'll take a look. When it thinks something is an HTML tag it definitely gets really messed up, which should be a part of...

For a generation whose entire teen lives are documented through images and opinions on social media I'd never want a potential employer to see, I'd argue the downsides for them are minimal....

Really, what does a company want with anonymized data regarding your hobbies, and your life? Why would someone want that information specifically about you? The control systems to ensure employee malpractice stops someone from looking someone they know are robust in the GDPR-requirements.

So to a lot of people, the cost-benefit basically shows "Free money" . I can and do choose not to have a Ralph's card, but I can totally understand why other people choose the other option.
