    It's a good move, but "consent" by itself isn't enough. Companies have gotten very good at throwing thousands of meaningless words at people and hope they just scroll on by. I'd rather see them...

    It's a good move, but "consent" by itself isn't enough. Companies have gotten very good at throwing thousands of meaningless words at people and hope they just scroll on by.

    I'd rather see them almost nearly not allowed to track what the users are doing and not allowed to use their activities for marketing and targeted campaigns.

    Then again, it's probably easier to control what one's own kid does .......not that many have a choice when they have to install a bunch of stuff for library and school and extracurricular etc.

      These regulations come from a good place but I agree - fundamentally what companies do with data is opaque, and there are too many companies for it to be possible to actually oversee and ensure...

      These regulations come from a good place but I agree - fundamentally what companies do with data is opaque, and there are too many companies for it to be possible to actually oversee and ensure that the regulations aren’t being breached. The only thing that really should be done is massive limitation of data gathering.

        that and teaching kids to not be dumb online. i have friends who just don't care about privacy (likely because they don't fully see just how nasty it is below the surface). it should be taught how...
