Haha my friend in highschool told me about it while we were trying to draw FFUUUU memes to pass the time. I'd just go on 4chan and when I first used reddit I remember being mad that to see an image I had to leave the page I was on or open in a new tab... Yeah I was used to just scrolling and seeing the dumb memes on the same page. I think it wasn't for another few months until I went back to try it again and... I was whoring out for karma before I knew it. The novelty accounts back then were so much cooler :\ poem_for_your_sprog if you read this ur awesome :D

Whoever told them 1200 calories is enough should touch grass. Even the most strict health nuts know that does far more damage than good.

Some guy posted this link on lemmy in a thread about instagram adopting ActivityPub standards, i.e. their new platform speaking the feddi lingo and being able to x-post and share feeds, comments, users, pm's, etc.

The article is about the times a similar approach has been attempted by various tech giants, but he says it's a ruse to stop out the competition.

What do you guys think? I'm personally very OK with meta staying in their meta world and it's looking like a bad omen that mastadon's immediate, knee-jerk impulse reaction isn't to defederate.

Anyway the strategy seems to be: As soon as potential competition rises above sea-level, invite the crew on-board and burn their ship down. I'm also curious if you guys have whitnessed this strategy outside of big tech.

edit: oh, and this was linked here once before, a few weeks back when the article was first posted, here's the link to that thread.

I'm with you there buddy. I have to admit though I will give props to both ios and android for adding finer-tuned controlls to what apps have access to. Ios did great with the choose which pics this app can see and android did pretty well with both work profiles and sanboxing app-data from other apps.

But at the end of the day, I will always feel much safer in a web browser because there's just a lot less security concerns.

With browsers it's basically an exploit needs to be found to gain unaithorized access... with apps, I have to trust each and every individual app developer to not try anything shady.

It's a pretty clear choice: would I rather risk giving access to my files to a browser, or all the apps on my phone? The exploits found on browsers are extremely rare and kept very low key because they can be patched overnight, and the people commissioned to find them are likely after specific targets.

If the trust for the developer is there though like with a bank's app or something, I'll place my bet on the app being more secure though. I just didn't like the whole forcing everyone to use apps phase that companies tried to push on everybody.

I've never bothered with those shortcuts. I just download a fork of Firefox like fennec if I want it to be for browsing something specific. For everything tildes and lemmy related I have 1 browser just for that. If you are on ios you won't have as much browsers to choose from but there's plenty there for that purpose.

Idk why anyone would be against apps, but I'm definitely for the web layout. I like opening links in another tab. I just installed a random firefox fork on F-Droid and that's my tildes app! Like the only reason I used an app for reddit is because their mobile-friendliness isn't even an after-thought, for Tildes it pretty much behaves like a native app. Until an app comes out, I suggest you try out either Iceraven or Firefox Nightly just to hold you over, so you don't have random Tildes tabs open mixed with your regular browsing.

So Here's my two cents, and I mean this with the intent to help you though it may come off as insulting: I'd stay away from anything labeled as "for a church" [¹]. Looking at the software you mentioned it just looks like rebranding, like if I just got a broom and sold it to you as a special church broom.

[¹] Very common bad faith (no pun intended) marketing strategy in creating a pseudo-niche that takes advantage of marketing something generic as something specific. Not always the case, but it's a rule of thumb to consider.

Now with that aside, I took a look at Choyr. Looks like they use stripe, so Choyr doesn't actually take a fee for payments, that's just Stripe (and that one pretty popular in general). Their privacy policy doesn't seem to have any red flags either. I am actually surprised this service exists for free, so if I were you I'd dig deeper into it. If they try and say it truly is completely free either there's actually a little pocket of humanity trying to do good, or they are making good use of having access to opinions of all the churches on their platform.

The pro presenter one leaves a bad taste in my mouth.[²] They glued together some video and image editor and slapped together a user interface.

[²] Although for $300 that's honestly not bad at all. Given that they had enough glue for android, apple, and mac, but based on reviews it looks like they ran out of glue mid way for windows.

All in all, for presentation you could easily learn the native video editors on either mac or windows which comes for free and there isn't that much of a learning curve. Sounds like it would be a lot less work than pro presenter.

As far as social networking, Choyr seems OK, other than all your messages being stored on their servers (again find out how they are paying for their servers.. looks too good to be true) But really it's just based on the members of your church. It looks like a simplified stripped down version of facebook (this is a huge compliment).

As far as communication with visitors you don't need to be a programming savant to type up an html website in notepad.
