This was exactly what I was optimistic about happening. I am also an American and thought that it was odd that they were all on Twitter as it would be absolutely awesome for the government to run an instance that all other government entities, state, and potentially even local members can all join into and use for promotion and engagement in a way that Twitter never could with no real expectation of it going anywhere and use it for your local news and traffic and weather, to all the memes from the Parks Department about not petting the buffalo.
Wow. This is great. I hope this works out well for them. It would be great if more organisations tried other networks that aren't twitter or meta driven.

I like this. If every organization maintained their own federated instances it would help with flows of information and sort of a social network redundancy. It also wouldn't be a major price...
