It's completely understandable that people would like to get all their knowledge from a single, convenient source that mixes necessary news with a leavening of entertainment. But these centralized sources are easily manipulated and inherently distorting.

I can understand why governments are trying to reach people through whatever channels they pay attention to, in the current fragmented media environment. But it's so easy for the consumerized news readers to ignore, or algorithms to de-priortize necessary information, that I can't see this as a worthwhile effort.

I'm absolutely baffled by politicians using platforms as shitty as X (yes, I'm using the name because I love how much of a verbal train wreck it is!) as their main communication channel but I'm irritated by subtle inaccuracies in the article:

    • Which politician is on instagram? I mean, technically all the big ones I assume, but it it's a checkbox they have to check for their campaign, not their main communications channel. Shouldn't this be about twitter? Or is that the joke?

    • Newspapers have ads, too.
