This story reminded me of a part of the Mirai Confessions story. One of the kids there tried a similar scam to drum up clients for their legitimate DDOS protection business, mostly by knocking off companies with their DDOS botnet.

To a couple of the potential customers, the timing of an attack immediately followed up by someone who could protect them was a little concerning and in the end the scheme was not effective at getting them into legitimate business.

The entire story is well worth a read and could probably be a post on it's own.

That was probably one of the best articles I read this year, thanks for sharing it. It's a thrilling story with a good ending, and I legitimately am cheering for these guys now.
