I was a long-time user and server on the #bookz channel on Undernet. By the late oughts, I had ethical second thoughts about piracy, and the chat channel got fouled with unmoderated trolls and early Russian propagandists. I just walked away and never looked back.
I highly recommend the crew at tilde.town, they're very welcoming and I've that found the wide array of projects being actively worked on makes for a great creative environment and is very inspiring.
