This is cool! I’m not sure I buy the “semantic data as a bulwark against AI misinformation” angle from the blog post, but having Wolfram’s mathematical functions built in seems like it’ll be really useful.

That said, I have noticed recently that the general Kagi search has picked up a mildly annoying habit of returning the lowest fraction rather than a decimal when trying to divide something, so I’m guessing that’s related and hopefully an option in settings somewhere.

I think they fixed this issue in the last update, at least the changelog says so

Other than that, I'm really excited that more competition has been coming to search.

At the very least, I appreciate the transparency.

I looked into their privacy policy. Granted, you only have their word for it. But the same can be said about any service you use.

Searches are anonymous and private to you. Kagi does not log and associate searches with an account.

You literally do not have to trust them in the slightest. You’re not being rational - your “pile of reasons” is that you don’t like them.

Is there a search engine you do trust? I'm making the assumption the big ones (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.) track you regardless of having an account.

I’ve been mostly satisfied with DuckDuckGo for years, but I’m pretty sure it’s just a front-end for Bing. Results are generally “good enough.” I think result relevance has declined for all the search engines in the past few years, just because of the state of the web these days. I don’t worry too much about tracking because I use uBlock Origin + Decentraleyes + CanvasBlocker and Firefox with enhanced tracking protection, and a VPN, and a weird habit of opening unknown links in private windows to isolate them. A bit more paranoid than most, lol. Anyway, I mentioned in another thread that I’m unemployed at the moment, so Kagi’s gonna have to wait for some cash flow. But I’m interested.

Btw, CanvasBlocker can basically be replaced with Firefox's resistFingerprinting, and Decentraleyes is also unnecessary if you use enhanced tracking protection, as all of the website cookies are isolated anyway.

If you want the best privacy you can squeeze out of Firefox without using something like TOR that sacrifices your convenience, you should check out Arkenfox user.js instead. It's basically a Firefox config file that makes it as private as possible with the added benefit of it being the same for everyone who uses it, so you won't be able to get fingerprinted by your browser configuration being unique.

And here's a blog post on why you basically don't need any "privacy" extensions except uBO

Many thanks for that, I haven’t revisited my strategy in years. It’ll be good to make sure what I’m doing is still current and effective.
