I don't think it's malicious. But I do think it's intentional that they're choosing not to restore all data and the original accounts: somebody decided this policy.

I don't use Internet Archive as a personal archive, what gave you that impression? But I do use the site and all its features and therefore had built up data on my profile: favourites, reviews,...

I doubt it's intentional or malicious. When I visited the Internet Archive office in SF, I felt their operations seemed a bit... amateurish, simply.
