I don't think so, at least for Gaza. Broadly the US populace supports Israel, and would be more sympathetic to something like a terrorist attack (which use to be a common, if somewhat overtuned fear post 9/11) than anything else. You shouldn't be surprised to see sentiment on Englisih forums broadly aligned with US sentiment.

For one, something like intense violence has a rally around the flag response. Like I said, for both the US and Western Europe, terrorist attacks are much more something that is feared as compared to concerns in Gaza or the West Bank.

Furthermore, there are natural polarization forces. Oct 7th happens, there’s an outpouring of support for Israel (which you’d expect). Disgruntled by this, folk who don’t support Israel stop participating in a sub. This is a reinforcement loop.

Don’t fall into the conspiratorial quagmire. Sometimes things just are what they are.

I wouldn’t trust any social media to be a true representation of public sentiment. I’m not sure if you’re just encountering some kind of confirmation bias or if things have actually changed on that sub, but I wouldn’t expect it to have ever been representative.

I just use Reddit as a news aggregator for some sports and hobbies, but I almost never go into the comments. I just don’t trust I’d get a good faith discussion.
