    The lack of direct mention of ActivityPub stands out. The intro of the article says it's why he feels AT is the future but there's no comparison to the most predominant preexisting alternative.

      I'm not sure a global view (firehose and app view) is always necessary, though. It would be nice to be able to fall back to something like an RSS feed if the global view isn't running for some reason.

      That would mean polling PDS's directly for updates. you wouldn't get like counts and replies, but you wouldn't be cut off.

    ATProto is the open protocol developed by Bluesky. This article explains the top-level view quite clearly, and makes a good job of showing why it’s interesting even if you’re not into Bluesky.
