But I'm glad that they're figuring this out now, so they annoy less people later.

Honestly, old and way too cautious drivers end up annoying me just as much if not more than these self driving cars, but it's harder to tell if a driver is old or not paying attention because you have to get a good look in the window. It's easy to spot these self driving cars from quite some distance.

From the article it sounds like the locals problems with them are rooted in impatience, or aggressive driving practices. The woman was following too close if she almost hit one like that, and the man doesn't have to pass them illegally just because he's frustrated. I feel like drivers just need to fucking relax. These things are moving cautiously, and that's a good thing while the tech is still developing. Lord knows I've witnessed more than a few accidents on I-95 because some impatient fucko recklessly switched lanes or was riding somebodies rear-end. An extra few seconds or minutes won't kill you, and it'll help your stress immensely.

There's an intersection which is split by a railroad that these self driving cars always mess up at. The light will be green and they'll still be stopped behind the railroad track. Some of it is...

Some of it is annoyance at their extra careful driving, but some of it is legitimate bugs and kinks to work out of the system.

Admittedly I don't have a great deal of driving experience; I avoid driving whenever physically possible. That being said, I think that our collective problem when driving is impatience and lack of awareness. Waiting five minutes isn't inherently a bad thing. However, driving in the back seat of the person in front of you, or otherwise being unaware, leads to those waits because no one can merge.

Which is funnily why the Google's AV was involved in it's first accident in which it was at fault. The vehicles are programmed to get more assertive when other drivers are not being considerate,...

Which is funnily why the Google's AV was involved in it's first accident in which it was at fault. The vehicles are programmed to get more assertive when other drivers are not being considerate, it was trying to be aggressive because people were not letting it merge and it ended up having a low speed collision with a bus that refused to let it in.

Yeah people want to make it sound like we are months out from a nationwide deployment. Even with big players like Chevy in the game it's still going to take a considerable amount of time before they figure out the physics of it and another decade to figure out the legislation behind it.
