Chrome Incognito mode no longer detectable in Chrome 76
@paul_irish:
Chrome Incognito mode has been detectable for years, due to the FileSystem API implementation. As of Chrome 76, this is fixed. Apologies to the "detect private mode" scripts out there. 💐
Previously the NY Times detected Incognito mode and blocked access. This change removes their ability to do so.
That's great (and shame on the New York Times for attempting to circumvent privacy measures!). Hopefully Mozilla will work on doing the same.
I would guess NYTimes needed it in order to implement their "10 articles for the month" lockout thing.
That would be my guess too. An organization who heavily relies on privacy in order to collect information for their stories should value it greatly.
They need to have a trustworthy reputation in order for people to feel comfortable going to them with sensitive leads.
