Prediction: in 2020 the smaller MacBook Pro will move to a 14" screen, while the Air will retain the 13" screen but shrink the bezels & chassis, bringing the actual size closer to the discontinued MacBook One. This would be a good way to distinguish the 13" Pro from the 13" Air, because right now it's kinda fuzzy.

I'm not in the market right now anyway, but I'm eager to hear if the keyboard redesign fully resolves the issues of the previous gen. I'm typing this comment on a butterfly-key MBP and about 1 in 5 presses of the space bar is resulting in two space characters. So frustrating to keep going back and fixing them. I'm still flabbergasted that a company as prestigious as Apple allowed something like this to go to market in the first place.
The other changes in the new model I'm not sure about. I use a 15" model for work and a 13" for personal use. If we're making the machines bigger I might be interested in a 14" but I think 16" sounds too big. The general spec bump is welcome. I'm still bitter about the move to only Thunderbolt ports (necessitating so many dongles) and the death of the magsafe power connector. I'm happy the escape key has returned but I would've preferred if the function keys joined it and the touch bar got the axe. The inverted T arrow keys are a small but welcome improvement.
Separate escape key, scissors, reduced besel. Ticks a lot of boxes for me but I unfortunately just got a new work laptop and can’t justify a new personal one. Next upgrade I suppose

I was hoping for a return of all of the function keys now that there's more room to put them, theoretically. But honestly, it was mostly about the Esc key, so this is good news! Also: Scissors...

I won't get a new MBP until my 2012 one dies (which – say what you want about Apple – doesn't seem like a concern any time soon). So this gives me hope I still have Apple as an option. Maybe their promised USB-C utopia will actually arrive until then.
I really wonder how much Jony Ive is responsible for all the things people hate about the current Apple lineup. From terrible keyboards for slimness sake, the trashcan imac, no usb-c iphones,...

I have no idea what the exact timeline of his departure is/was, but is this the first "generation" of macbook that is outside of Ive's direct leadership? And is that why we are seeing a rollback on all of the terrible decisions that users have consistently complained about for half a decade?
Could be but I don‘t know if that’s really the story, here. Apple has rolled back quite a few bad decisions over the years based on consumer feedback (their horrible mouse designs come to mind).

Looking at what I can get for my 2017 15" MBP, I could probably get this for around 2K more (ie, sell this one, add 2K, buy new one), which might be worth it just to get rid of THIS GODDAMN KEYBOARD.

Now I have something I can replace my current one with if it should die. Hopefully they'll make the same changes to the current 13" one. The former 15"/now 16" is a bit too big for me

Still no user-replaceable SSD or DIMMS, so no buy from me.
If Apple fixed these two pain points I would buy one in a heartbeat.
