Seriously. Zoom is terrible and I advise everyone to stop using it. Can someone explain to me why this application seems to have such an intense following among sales and business development people? It doesn't seem, to me, to be any better than things like Google Hangouts or Uberconference or GoToMeeting. But they seem intent of using it by hook or by crook.

The BizDev folks within my company basically made us let them install it on their machines and they, predictably, sidelined security from the conversation because they knew what I would say.

I don't like Zoom - my company uses Hangouts, which is great - but everyone I know who has used other things and then used Zoom just finds Zoom easier, including my in-laws, who are able to connect easily when my wife sends them a Zoom meeting invitation.

+1 that it's the easiest to use (both getting it setup and accessing features during a meeting). Also, anecdotally, its codecs tend to work better in low-bandwidth environments.

People have proven time and again that they will give up/ignore security for the sake of convenience. That said, every single one of these companies use a random or personal meeting ID and I'm willing to wager they're all able to be wardialed if one so chooses.

I hear performance is a concern that zoom addresses pretty well with very large meetings but still, even small ones.

I like zoom for only one thing: As a consultant, it allows me to do remote screen control over my clients, and they have good control over it. It's not perfect, but it's one of the only apps that does that and it makes debugging / addressing issues a lot easier. But that's very specific to my line of work.
