someone posted this on that blog https://evrignaud.github.io/gpx-viewer/ looks pretty slick, but if I drag a GPX file into there, how to I know thats not being uploaded to their server?

Use the network analyzer in your browser’s development tools. Although that’ll only tell you after it’s happened.

I've been thinking on and off about a federated Strava alternative which would help to alleviate Bunnie's strava concerns to an extent but I feel without an automated Garmin/Suunto sync service...

I like the sound of that. I would use it even if it meant I had to manually upload gpx files

TechCrunch has a little more too, and makes the good point that sanctions may prevent Garmin from being able to pay the ransom, even if they want to.

This whole situation is pretty surprising to me. If I were Garmin, I would probably just pay the $10 million and ask questions later. I can only imagine they are losing a non-insignificant portion...

This whole situation is pretty surprising to me. If I were Garmin, I would probably just pay the $10 million and ask questions later. I can only imagine they are losing a non-insignificant portion of their market share each day their systems are down. It sounds like you can't even buy a Garmin product right now and go through set up. I know my watch not syncing up to my other health apps has been a bit of a pain point.

What are your thoughts on it?
