Bringing up Snowden in the info sec community will still get a pretty split reaction. With the US Govt sycophants spouting that he is a Russian plant/spy. I don't think that opinion has changed much.

Why though? Any reason beyond "we kicked him out and the motel on the other side of the fence were willing to take him in"? I've seen my fair share of "Asylum for snowden" stickers studying CS...

I've seen my fair share of "Asylum for snowden" stickers studying CS here in germany, btw. Wonder if he'd turn into a german spy if that ever happened.
Because blaming Russia for everything keeps people from looking inward. Snowden revealed that reality is closer to schizophrenic rants of the past. And the population at large villified him for it.
