Unsubscribing from a parent group doesn't automatically unsubscribe me from its subgroups

Hello! Tildes newbie here. I wasn't sure if this is a bug or if it's working as intended, so I wanted to ask.

I unsubscribed from https://tildes.net/~sports but noticed that I still saw a post from ~sports.hockey in my home feed. It took me a while to figure out that I also had to go to each of the ~sports subgroups and unsubscribe from all of them too. Am I doing this correctly or did I miss a button somewhere that would let me unsubscribe from a parent group + all its subgroups in one go?

Thank you!

--- EDIT ---
Thanks to everyone for the replies! Confirmed that it's working as intended. And there is now a new post by cfabbro on Gitlab suggesting that "unsubscribe from all subgroups" be added as a new function.

Working as intended, AFAIK. Not everyone who unsubscribes from a parent group wants to automatically be unsubbed from all the subgroups. E.g. Some people have unsubbed from ~tildes (where lots of meta discussion takes place) but have stayed subscribed to ~tildes.official, so they don't miss any official posts by Deimos.

But I do think having an "unsubscribe from all subgroups of parent group" button on each group page is a good feature to have, especially if Tildes keeps growing and adding more subgroups... so I have added that to Gitlab:

We shouldn't be auto-subbed to any of them anyway. Let the users choose what they want to follow.

I disagree there. There are many groups that I wouldn’t have subscribed to, but haven’t unsubscribed from either. Sometimes I engage with the content there, which wouldn’t have happened if I had to seek them all out myself. And for the ones that I really got tired of seeing, it took 2 clicks to never see them again.

I can see how people would not want the parent group, but still want to belong to a sub group.

And there are soooo many different subtildes to sport. I thought I unsubscribed from them all and the motorsports appeared.

Deleted my comment linking to this issue in the GitLab because while it’s a related issue, I don’t know that one actually exists for what you’re asking about.

Just thought of another suggestion related to this-- in the "Browse the list of groups" page, it might be helpful to add this help text after "You can change your subscription status...":...

Just thought of another suggestion related to this-- in the "Browse the list of groups" page, it might be helpful to add this help text after "You can change your subscription status...":

"Changing your subscription status for a group does not affect your subscription status for its subgroups."

(Assuming that subscribing to a group also doesn't automatically subscribe you to all its subgroups.)

Was anyone else annoyed at being auto subscribed to everything?

There's hundreds of thousands of words amongst languages spoken today and in the past, and yet all together, they still lack enough for me to accurately describe how much I absolutely despise and loathe sports.

Don't subscribe for us, let us subscribe to what /WE/ actually want to see.
