    Hi everyone,
New here, but can't seem to vote on an open topic, unlike others I've seen? (I've done a DDG search, and searched the forums, so this is not without my own effort.)
The specified topic is the link provided.

You can't vote on topics that are older than 30 days.

To expand on why, here is the following official post explaining the decision: https://tildes.net/~tildes.official/jhm/the_voting_on_topics_and_comments_now_ends_when_theyre_30_days_old_and_all_individual_vote_records

Keeping eternal records of everything that every user ever voted on is some of the most sensitive data that sites with a voting system have.

To match up with Tildes's general approach of deleting as much sensitive data as possible after 30 days, the voting on posts closes when they're 30 days old. After a post's voting is closed, the records of which individual users voted on that post are deleted, but the count of how many votes there were is kept.

The main downside is that the voting does need to be closed (otherwise there would be no way to prevent people from voting again after their first vote is deleted), which prevents the occasionally useful ability to vote on old topics or comments.

Maybe another silly question, but who marked this post as solved? As even myself as the OP can't edit the title afterwards?

But I'll own up as the culprit who marked this post as 'solved'. It's a convention that we follow... not as regularly as we could.

No problem, thanks for doing it. If you want, I guess you can lock it now as well. :-)

Ha! There's only one person on Tildes who can lock topics... and I ain't him!

          We helpers have limited abilities:

          • Adding and removing tags.

          • Editing titles.

          • Moving topics between groups.

          • Editing links.

(Not all helpers have all these powers.)

Everything else is in Deimos' hands: locking topics, removing comments and topics, banning users, and so on. Only the God of Tildes can do those things, not we mere humans.

Haha okay, makes sense. Deimo locked my first post that I saw this morning, but it made sense, as things were getting off topic. :-)
