New notifications not readily visible in mobile

When on the home page on mobile you can't see if you have any new notifications without first opening the sidebar.

    Yeah, I'm constantly having to open my sidebar to check, it'd be nice if we didn't have to do this.

      There also doesn't appear to be much CSS and JS manipulation for things like floating top bar, a mobile app could definitely help in that area as well.

    Another user brought this to @deimos' attention a few days ago, so he is aware of it and said he plans to address it (though IIRC he said he hasn't decided how best to do that yet). So suggestions...

      For me there's a decent amount of space left at the top bar on mobile, so perhaps there could be the orange '(number) new' there, or even something small like an orange '!' letting you know to...

This is how much space I have and sorry for the weird link, my phone doesn't want to place nice with imgur right now.

      Edit: the space is about the same on pages where it says sidebar too: example just for reference.
