Suggestion: More visible location to see if you have new replies
Right now, it's top right, and not too easily seen without specifically looking over there; it'd be nice to have a more convenient location - top left? I don't know.
Facebook notifications are on the top-right, reddit new replies are on the top-right, steam new notifications are on the top right, and it works for all of them.
If visibility is bad (I don't think it is, but I mostly use tildes on my phone), maybe some other aspect of the icon needs to be changed? The color is already bright, but maybe make it larger?
I haven't had any issue with visibility on the dark theme. The red text certainly grabs my attention.
Perhaps on the same line as your name and to the left of the name
