Familiarity: upvote arrows vs tapping on the votes

It took me a few seconds to realize that tapping on the # of votes would count as an upvote.

The usual arrows would be nice, even Facebook is experimenting with those now.

update: Just realized this suggestion was already raised 4 days ago.

Agreed. The number isn't a very obvious UI mechanism, and arrows give instant visual feedback as to what clicking on it performs. I would recommend an arrow above the number, specifically.

I like clicking the number. One UI element vs two is a good thing in my book. I also don't think an up-arrow gives the right impression as to what the vote is for - the mentality of pushing the things that you like further up is part of the reason why people vote based on opinions which is one of the hardest problems for a discussion platform to solve.

We've been talking about changing the terminology or the UI elements in some ways to try to encourage voting "properly", but I don't think we've really come up with a strong way to do that yet.

But dont change it, or not too much. Its minimal and straight forward, like this site. Play to your strengths. Its already a differentiator between you and reddit, which is a good thing.

I think once we decide on a name for "votes" it'll be more intuitive. I actually like it better this way.
