    • Exemplary

    From the official Tildes docs:

In-depth content (primarily text-based) is the most important

This includes linking to articles on other sites, posting text topics on Tildes itself, and the comment discussions. In general, any changes to the site that will cause "shallower" content to gain an advantage should be considered very carefully.

Previous discussion threads on "fluff" content (all more than a year old, however):

The general way I think about this is that content on Tildes should be "slow" and not "fast". In food there's the concept of the glycemic index - roughly speaking, how quickly after eating does a given carbohydrate get digested and hit your bloodstream. Content on Tildes should be slow to digest (a low glycemic index). There's plenty of sites on the internet for fast content - most of reddit, what the frontpage of imgur has turned into, etc etc. Tildes is trying to carve out a niche for slower content.

There have even been a few image only posts that were perfectly acceptable here too. E.g. One that still sits firmly in my mind as being particularly exemplary is @meristele's custom painted M:TG...

This was part of the reason reddit didn't support direct uploads for a long time. It started out as a way to save bandwidth and storage space on their end, but they held off for a long time because it would change the site experience (and it sure did, in a negative way, if you ask me). I mean, they branded themselves as a "social news site," not a "dank meme repository," after all.

The original reason imgur was created was to be a basic, simple image host for reddit, without all the fluff and nonsense that comes with other image hosts, which at the time, tended to be social media sites. It's ironic that imgur has become the very thing they were initially seeking to avoid.

Anyway, I agree with your comment, I just thought it might be interesting to share some insight about how past sites have handled this. I think the "slow to digest" approach seems to be working well for Tildes.

Yeah I can tell it’s more about discussing rather than media which I like but I feel some post would look a bit better with maybe a picture

      Is that what it's called, a sub-tilde?

I am a full on supporter of the use of topic, group, and sub-group. I always feel goofy calling a subreddit a subreddit.

There are plenty videos but they’re usually not very popular. Tilders like text.

Why is the letter M turned upside down? Visually the Russian letter Ш is similar to the inverted English letter M.
