Reward system?

Could a reward system be added similar to Reddit coins but instead of buying them you earn them from being active on the website and from the quality of your content maybe by using the voting system and you could buy rewards for posts with them, it could be a bit like tildes own currency in a way, I’m personally a big fan of the Reddit coins but just don’t like how you have to buy them I think they should be something that is earn from using the website

I'm very wary of systems that reward "being active". That's how you end up with a circlejerk of point-hungry drones like StackOverflow has. Tildes already has the "exemplary" tag, isn't that good...

Tildes already has the "exemplary" tag, isn't that good enough?

I think as long as the system works in a stable manner you wouldn’t have a problem

There is literally no case on the internet where this hasn't gone terribly. Why not just reply to someone saying you like their comment/post? Why would an icon be any better a reward than a human...

The original reddit gold, as it was released, was a great idea. I personally have nothing against users using gold as both a way to fund the site and reward great content. But as it stands now, it's just a bastardized version of what it should be and frankly it would be awful to see something like that here.

surely: post or comment = active in the community

I am very much not a fan of systems for incentivizing or gamifying participation. In a well functioning forum, the enjoyment of finding interesting stuff online and having discussions should be its own "reward" and having some sort of incentivizing proxy for it just shifts the focus to the wrong places. To the developer, suddenly it becomes about having a "fair" reward system that works instead of ways to design the intended purpose of the site to feel rewarding and delightful. To the user it shifts activity from engaging with the site in a way that's emotionally satisfying to you to engaging in a way to get "points" or whatever.

In some cases it's a necessary evil. Like you might need to prompt people to participate just to keep a steady stream of activity and content coming in. But for that I think votes and the "exemplary" labels are good enough at achieving the goal without losing sight of the essence behind what it is we're trying to do here.

I like that the system has a learning curve, specially because the forum revolves around the use of a physical system, where experience can be necessary for safe usage and advice.

Terrible idea but we could use some gold system to support the site, and 1 month later the quantity of gold won disappear and say something "received gold", and in the profile never show how many post it has with gold. This last part I think is important so we don't have nothing similar to karma.
