I'd encourage disabling it, unless you care deeply about tags and want to see all of them all of the time in listings (which is probably really just people like @mycketforvirrad that do a lot of re-tagging). Even I have it disabled.
It should probably be much more of a hidden option (right now it's the second one on the settings page). It makes the site look far more cluttered and very, very few people probably need or want...

I've had that on by default for as long as I can remeber so I don't mind it. The tagging is often contingent on whatever order the tags are put in before though, and that's always subjective.
