This article wasn’t very clear to me. Is the NHTSA reporting its own independent findings or are they just aggregating what the companies have reported? If the data here is just based on what auto makers are reporting themselves, I’m not sure these are comparable data points. I would think the NHTSA would need to implement a standardized system for reporting so that companies can’t withhold their data and can’t weasel out of it.
GM said the three crashes weren’t the fault of Super Cruise.
How did they make that determination? Seems like the current reporting methods and norms are simply inadequate to properly assess the situation.
Overall it seems like all of these driver assisting software/hardware features need to be scrutinized much more heavily.
