Things to do and see in Vienna

What are some things to do and see in Vienna? I'm traveling there with a few friends and we're looking for recommendations. We like food and drinking, shopping and walking around, but we're open for anything.

(Thank you, everyone who recommended things to do in Munich and Prague, we had a wonderful time in both cities)

The Vienna State Opera is a beautiful building. While I didn’t enjoy the play itself that much, being in the building, the atmosphere, it was a very overwhelming experience.

Depending on your own interests, the houses of Freud and Mozart are turned into interesting museums.

Sitting down in one of the many coffee houses for coffee and sweets is definitely recommended as well.

Haha! No way, I had no idea they had a shop in Vienna. Can second this, Miznon is incredible.

I live in Italy so it was a different take on wine as far as atmosphere goes and we really enjoyed it. If you enjoy art you are going to the right place, the museums are incredible. For food be sure to visit café central, the breakfast was good but the cake was divine.

Been in Vienna twice. Last time was part of our Austrian camper road-trip. Here are some places we liked:

Griechenbeisl is a nice little place to eat.
Hammond Bar is a great cocktail bar.
Prater is a fun, historical amusement park.
1516 Brewing Company is a great bar that, as the name suggest, brews their own beers.

Organic Turkish food (best vines leaves I've ever had): https://maps.app.goo.gl/jM6oCcC1fxW8rmSk7

Vegan burgers, right next to Sigmund Freud Park (try the sweet woodruff soda, it's really unique): https://maps.app.goo.gl/gr5rceaaj3Ec4FBw6

Just walking around MuseumsQuartier is great, it seemed very hip to me.

It's a niche interest and you may be too late to get tickets, but seeing the Lipizanner horses and their riders perform at the Spanish Riding School in person is on my bucket list....

The museum is fantastic and there’s a treasure hunt game you can book which is super fun and helps you get around the museum looking for clues in the exhibits.

    we used this one: https://mystery.at/en/mystery-hunt/kunsthistorisches-museum/

My GF was just there a week or two ago. The only thing she talked about was a statue of an elephant, apparently it was in front of a statue of "some old lady", which turned out to be Maria-Theresia.

IIRC there was this huge war museum. It had the car Franz Ferdinand was in when he was shot... I found that kind of surreal. Edit: wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum_of_Military_History,_Vienna

For some reason I really enjoyed a restaurant called "the centimeter" it was really close to our hotel. It's very typical Austrian food (like schintzel).
