I've previously had a 4-5 hr layover at Heathrow that I spent by leaving the airport and heading over to Hounslow to get a full english breakfast (pretty tasty if I might add). I've visited London many times, but it was interesting as a visitor to see a more residential and diverse part of London. It's probably not what you are looking for if you want to be comfortable and relaxed before a long flight though.

Yeah Hounslow is probably the safest option, it's right by the airport so you won't have to worry so much about getting back in time. For me 7 hours is a really inconvenient amount of time. You'll lose 2 or 3 getting out of and back into the airport. The risk of the tube being down or something would make me not want to go too far away either.

There's lots of restaurants and bars around Hounslow. There's even a bowling alley not far from the airport. Plenty of hotels around too, maybe some of them offer a spa treatment / massage thing? Might be a nice way to relax in between flights.

Honestly, good luck and if you find anything let me know. I hate Heathrow, it’s an awful airport and incredibly boring for how large it is. I’ve never found anywhere nice. (Exception was when I accidentally got a business class ticket and hung out in the lounge.) I hate it. I suppose I should be grateful to Brexit because I feel like I pass through there less than I used to.

If you have seven hours you might be able to fit in a trip to Southall which is pretty fun. It's a couple of miles from Heathrow. The food is going to be very different. EDIT to add a bit more!...

EDIT to add a bit more!

Southall is about 20 - 30 minutes by car or public transport from Heathrow Terminal 5. It's the largest Asian population in London. There's a huge amount of independent food shops selling a wide variety of home style and street food cooking.

There are lots of videos on YouTube but they're all a bit wonky-handheld cameras and not so much a coherent review of the street food.

    Jalebi Junction is often recommended.

Grab an M&S sandwich and coffee/beer/drinkofyourchoice and grab a taxi to one of the west (of) London parks and enjoy some fresh air before getting back inside a metal tube. Bushy Park is closest...

There's a fantastic restaurant in the Sofitel at T3 called La Belle Epoque. It's worth the terminal transfer. Reservation recommended.

Did a bit of research to supplement my memory, I think it's actually at T5! But... May not be open for lunch. Good luck!

I think those chains are so prolific because they get tax breaks or something - they're terribly bland and overpriced, but you just can't get rid of the damn things.

They spent all that time colonizing countries for their spices but never learned how to use them.
