I'm hoping they do get Jamie Lee Curtis for one of the characters. I also hope that they get Christopher Lloyd for another one but I guess I'm dreaming. I also want Mads Mikkelsen in there. (Not saying the character names since that's probably a spoiler?)

I've been liking the behind the scenes stuff they've been releasing. For example

Edit: Another article about the renewal One Piece Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix.
Edit2: I received Luffy's straw hat earlier this week from Netflix. I didn't expect that at all. They had a thing on this site a couple weeks ago: https://www.strawhatgrandfleet.com/. I guess it was related to that. I wonder how many hats they sent for free to people that signed up.

Is the Netflix show a suitable alternative for someome who might be interested in the story of One Piece but has no desire to sit through 1,000 episodes of what is probably 60% filler?

Of you want to watch the anime, but to have a less watered down experience, I'd highly recommend One pace, which is a fan project that cuts down the anime to be much closer to the manga in pacing. If I remember correctly it cuts like 30% of the total runtime of the show.

As someone who watched the anime but fell off after a while, I highly recommend the live action adaptation. It keeps the core of one piece while cutting away a lot of fat yet still keeps the world large and intertwined with easter eggs.

I was surprised I liked it as much as I did.

It also helps that they toned down the characters a bit in live action, Luffy isn't as dumb, Sanji isn't as pervy, ect.

My family aren't One Piece fans but they binged the live action adaptation. My mom even said she understands now why people watch thousands of episodes of this. The adaptation benefits from hindsight, they've been setting up a lot of upcoming stuff way earlier.

One Piece anime doesn't have too many fillers. (The few fillers it has are usually liked by the community.) It does a lot of episode padding though (stretching animations, adding more reaction shots etc.) If you want to skip all that there's a project called One Pace that removes all the extra stuff.

Of course the manga is much better with better pacing.

I've been rewatching the anime lately and I enjoy the anime pacing though.

I have never watched the anime but quite enjoyed the live-action. It's super corny, but still kind of endearing

On the downside, there is a shitton of dead time due to their absurd release schedule, which might as well be filler (flashback, panning, stretching things out ABSURDLY long, etc).

That sounds worse than regular filler. At least you can easily skip the former kind by finding a good fan-made watch order. Did it ever occur to them to just make a smaller number of episodes to...

Did it ever occur to them to just make a smaller number of episodes to fit both their story and their time?

Oh it almost certainly is for what it's worth. Just a "fun" fact. And as for them "making a smaller number of episodes"...one piece is the only Anime that has an episode release every single week....

And as for them "making a smaller number of episodes"...one piece is the only Anime that has an episode release every single week. So not only did they not release fewer, it's on the most aggressive release schedule possible, making the whole thing insane.

I love this series. It is a little ridiculous but it's good.

I like that the bad guys are interesting too. Helmeppo (guy with bad haircut from Zoro) ended up being my favorite character.

I subscribed to Shonen Jump so I could start the manga. I can’t decide if I want to dedicate my time to the manga or anime ( I just can’t really do both right now lol). But for now, I’ve settled on the manga. Maybe once I catch up a bit or find an arc I particularly love, I’ll watch start watching the anime from there.

If not for those, we would have tons of interesting and funny interviews with this cast. But now all we get is Netflix prepackaged stuff recorded most likely before the strike.

The prepackaged stuff is really good though. Quite a genius move by the marketing team. I'm guessing they'll still give interviews even if it's in a few months.

There is just that something special about actual physical effects that pure CGI can't match.
