You've got to be absurdly sensitive if you think I'm attacking the OP.

I get that Tildes is supposed to be a more civil venue than, say, Reddit. But I don't get how a good faith reading of my comment about not caring about GRRM's sideprojects until he completes his foundational series can be seen as an aggressive "attack" upon the OP.

I'm very leery of those who tone police all commentary to the point where anything remotely spicy is considered "aggression". And I'm sorry, but your objection to my comment came off like those of people who ruin forums by adhering to an impossible level civility without ever engaging with the substance of the argument.

My words are often brusque, but my intentions are always civil. If you want to live in a hermetically sealed world where no one has a strong opinion about things, well, good luck to you. That's not the way people think or behave in the real world.

So I'd like to be clear I'm not particularly bothered by your original post or your reply on a personal level. I was attempting to do the Tildes equivalent of "Whoa dude, coming in awfully hot about a book in a TV show thread. None of us are (to my knowledge) GRRM so like, dial it down a few notches.". But I don't type that way with in this setting.

I was approaching your post in the spirit of "hey, they're pretty upset but it comes off aggro and feels a bit off topic for it."

In your first reply you continued being pretty aggressive by assuming I was being "absurdly sensitive" and assuming I'd said you were attacking the OP. I never said I wanted a hermetically sealed bubble or any of the other stuff you read into what I said later either, and I do feel like you're still coming off pretty aggressive particularly in my direction and with a lot of assumptions about what I said and what implications the things I didn't actually say have for Tildes as a whole.

So, I'd still request that you chill, especially in my direction, but once again, not from a perspective where I'm incredibly offended or where such rude language gives me the vapors, just like, if I post about something neat or new, someone jumping in and being like "FUCK THIS" is kinda aggressive. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't think it ever is. But the Dunk and Egg book was a fun read.

Dunk and Egg works as a coming of age story without further connection to the wider world, at least for me.

I was also angry that ASOIAF got abandoned, but I find the Dunk story charming and fun in its own right.

Argh. For all I've vowed to boycott GRRM books and related tales ever since I reread the entire series ten years ago, along with the Fire and Ice book he released, then the Dunk and Egg stories, then most of GRRM's non-ASOIAF books like Fevre Dream, Armageddon Rag, and the first volume of his short stories, I will likely crawl back to watching Dunk and Egg, just like I crawled back to watching House of the Dragon.

But I'm mad at Martin until he finishes ASOIAF. It will be an absolute tragedy if he doesn't complete those books, which is looking more and more uncertain as times goes on. GRRM could have been the American Tolkein, but if ASOIAF is left uncompleted, his legacy will always have an asterix next to it.
