TV Tuesdays Free Talk
Have you watched any TV shows recently you want to discuss? Any shows you want to recommend or are hyped about? Feel free to discuss anything here.
Please just try to provide fair warning of spoilers if you can.
I just got a yearly Dropout sub after Game Changer and Make Some Noise shorts filling my YT feed. I have been watching those two shows and so far this subscription is more than worth it. I'm mostly shocked at how the remote season of Game Changer is still good. I was totally expecting it to be disappointing since they can't be there in person.
I'm not looking forward to catching up with Game Change and Make Some Noise, but it looks like they're plenty of other shows to enjoy too
Remote Dimension 20 is probably the roughest, Um Actually makes it through ok but I find virtual D&D hard to watch.
Gastronauts has been fun, I haven't watched their new show yet.
If you want a throwback, Paranoia is "Werewolf/Mafia" but high. Where the stoners (who are actually high) and the "poser" have to trick the regular people and the "narc" into thinking they're sober. It's pretty fun other than when folks have had to drop out due to getting way too high. Ally hosts it
Paranoia sounds hilarious! I'm gonna add that to my list. I've watched a few episodes of Um, Actually and it's okay. Maybe it's the first season or it's just not my cup of tea
Um Actually takes a bit to land, there's a lot of fun in the ones that taunt Brennan if nothing else, but some are better than others. Ify has taken over as host this season and he's been doing well too!
But not everyone loves the style. The home game is fun too
Station Eleven - 10/10.
And I do not give out 10's lightly. Mostly reserved for things that have had lasting, emotional impacts throughout my life.
I have only given that rating to 12 titles in total out of over a thousand ratings that I've done since 15 years ago. If anyone cares, here are the other ones:
The Wire
The Fellowship of the Ring
Band of Brothers
Blade Runner 2049
About Time
Drive
Lost in Translation
The Bourne Identity
Short Term 12
The Real Thing
San Junipero
Finished rewatching this last week. Took only 2 days to watch all 10 episodes so if that's not telling of its quality, I don't know what is! I don't have much to say about it other than that it is just such a truly profound show that touches me on a whole other level. The final 2 episodes are quite possibly to me the best in any tv show, ever. This is just a truly cathartic show but I'm glad I've only rewatched it now, 3 years after it came out when I initially viewed it. That way I had forgotten most of it outside of the overall story beats, so it was almost like watching it for the first time again. The emotional punches hit just as hard as back then too.
I love this show so much that I will even be getting a tattoo of it (and I have zero tattoos) once I save up enough money.
Station Eleven was wonderful. I've watched it twice and read the book. The book, although good, was not as evocative and fulfilling as the adaptation to TV. The finale was one of the two episodes of TV that I recall having made me cry. I mean, like, more than just a tear welling up in my eye. There may have been a slight whimper. Mackenzie Davis is a star in the other show that had an episode that made me cry, Halt and Catch Fire.
Yeah, that moment can't not make you cry.
I'm overdue for a rewatch of HaCF, thanks for the reminder. It has some middling parts but overall quite good and a satisfying watch as I remember it.
After last weeks first half of the two part series finale to Lower Decks, I'm very excited and sad to see how it concludes this week.
It's gotta be one of my favourite Trek episodes, of any show, ever.
I really really hope they stick the landing. I have high confidence. I'll miss it a lot.
Strike/ CB Strike came out yesterday. it’s only four episodes per series, but it’s great.
