Charlie Cox is good as Matt Murdoch, but the real star of the show was Vincent D'Onofrio, IMO. He is the absolutely picture perfect Kingpin; Incredibly physically intimidating and also genuinely terrifying because of how ruthless and unhinged he was (car door scene, anyone?). It's also great to see Jon Bernthal returning as Punisher too though, since he was also perfectly cast. I sadly doubt he will have that big of a role in this new series, but hopefully if it does well Punisher will get his own show again too.
I'm just happy to see them actually committing to the grit and the violence. Further I hope that they can commit to proper fight scene choreography like s1. Dardevil is up there with Iron Man on...
I'm just happy to see them actually committing to the grit and the violence. Further I hope that they can commit to proper fight scene choreography like s1. Dardevil is up there with Iron Man on helping launch comic book shows further into the mainstream, and I'm hoping they manage to get that going again.
That said, like all things comic book, I think they need to be careful where they tread. There were lots of issues with the later seasons of daredevil, but a huge one was just that going into the hyper mystical stuff like the hand has to be done well, and it wasn't.
Yeah, I'm glad they aren't shying away from the violence too. I didn't mind the mystical stuff so much, TBH, but the fight choreography definitely does matter a lot to me too. It was one of the...
Yeah, I'm glad they aren't shying away from the violence too. I didn't mind the mystical stuff so much, TBH, but the fight choreography definitely does matter a lot to me too. It was one of the reasons I disliked Iron Fist, since the fighting was subpar compared to Daredevil's, and they had to rely on constant quick cuts in every fight scene to make Finn Jones look less awful. It's why I was actually excited when they brought in the idea of him using guns alongside his powers at the very end of season 2, since at least then he might not have looked so ridiculously awkward during every fight scene. But it unfortunately got cancelled before they could explore that idea.
I agree, the Netflix shows were great. Was musing on the possibility of a re-watch some time. Especially now my kid is probably old enough to watch them, as I remember them being pretty brutal.

I don't remember much brutally violent stuff in Luke Cage or Iron Fist though... just your standard variety Marvel superhero movie type violence, IIRC.
Ah, okay. I'm not a parent, but I think an 18 year old should be fine to watch all of them. I assumed by "kid" you meant a 14 year old or somewhere around that age, which is definitely still a bit...

In my opinion, the Daredevil series of the Netflix Marvel shows was one of the better ones, in no small part because of the cast (who would have thought that Tristan Thorn would end up a vigilante?). There were a few that I never ended up watching due to a bit of an oversaturation of Marvel content- it really gets tiring just trying to keep up with it, and this is coming from somebody who watched through all (I think?) of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
As an aside, I love the logo- as the cityscape fades in it looks like dripping blood. It's a brilliant design detail.

Yeah he's 18 in a month, haven't even considered a re watch with him until now.

100% agreed on all counts.
