Have you watched any TV shows recently you want to discuss? Any shows you want to recommend or are hyped about? Feel free to discuss anything here.
Please just try to provide fair warning of spoilers if you can.
I started watching Silo, only 3 episodes in so no spoilers.
It has a a great hook so far, I can't wait to watch more and to find out what is going, but it also makes me really scared thinking maybe they butchered it the next seasons.. We will see.
First and second seasons of Silo are good, and kept my interest throughout. The third season is much slower to build the storyline, and I felt like they wasted a few episodes spinning their wheels. It does pick up near the end.
No butchering or even close to it! Silo stays good to great the whole way imo
Watched The Day of The Jackal and loved it. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that a lot of it was shot in Croatia.
No exact release date yet for season 2, but it's going to be 2027 at least. Can't wait! Season 1 was really good.
Binged Lanterns these last few days.
I thought it was really good. I liked the True Detective feel. I also appreciate Tom King's writing in comics and I could see that in this show. Especially with Hal's character. Exposing his flaws in a bigger and more realistic way reminds me of Strange Adventures.
I wasn't aware that Jon Stewart could use the powers without the ring, so that was a surprise. I also thought the idea of only one Lantern from Earth was interesting. They resolved it pretty well. I don't know if that was to get Jon Stewart out of the way of future movies or not.
I didn't care much for him changing the oath. I'm not sure how that works since the lantern is still connected to the one at Oa.
I like that Hal kept saying his gut was always right and it was. It reinforces his experience, knowledge, and skills that is the foundation of his instincts. It wasn't just arrogance.
I thought the reveals were well done. His mom not being dead and being the one pushing him to this goal was a good early one. Also the sheriff killing Hal was good. Not because it was a surprise, but how emotional the actual event was.
Hal and John's relationship was also really well done. Their conflicting personalities and differences played really well on screen. The reveal to Hal of John sleeping with the wife was very funny. I also loved that John became closer with Hal's 2006 backup than the real one. Also cements how hardened Hal got in the end. Also the "Gym Teacher" bits were always funny.
Avatar: Seven Havens premiered, definitely a very interesting setup. Called a big reveal, glad they didn't sit on it too long. Curious on how it's going to unfold going forward, especially since the show now has a few more books at its disposal.
Watched Visionquest, I'm glad the superhero show is a little more introspective than the norm, but it throws a whole lot at you all at once, and if you're not interested in the inner workings of The Vision, it's literally stuck inside his head most of the time.
i was really hoping for a Road House throat rip. mind you, i want that in every show… #macgruber
Vision was pretty brutal in this episode to be honest. Granted Disney Plus really lets them go to town in the streaming series now, but he goes to town a lot of the mooks.
I really hope they let it go darker than the other properties. Bettany is great.
Its amazing how relatively consistent South Park is. They don't always nail it, but there's always something in there that is amazing.
The Lowdown is back and seems to be in good form. I wasn't sure if they could pull it off. The first season was good but didn't really reach for much -- just a nice pulp story a la Max Allen Collins etc. Hawke is fantastic but somehow lets everybody share the scenes... if that makes sense. He doesn't out-act anybody while still giving the strongest performance. Betty Gilpin is also exceptional. Also nice to see Brendanawicz getting work.
Gilpin was great on Nurse Jackie but I really noticed her in Masters of Sex. She's pretty consistent.
I'm taking my time with East of Eden. I really like it. I haven't read the book yet, but I probably will in a few months. Florence Pugh is great. I really love when Hoon Lee pops up in something. He was great on Banshee, Bosch, and Warrior. I hope we see him in more stuff but away from the 'asian guy with a secret' thing.
Honestly, how the fuck did Dallas catch on‽ I just started season two and nothing really happens. That said, If I ever have a son, his name will be JOCK.
