Watched the season finale of Avenue 5 on HBO. This show has been really good, and I hope upcoming seasons can keep it going. Consistently very funny.
We also started watching I'm Sorry. It's about the life of a comedy writer in Los Angeles (ugh). She's married and has a daughter who's in preschool. It's basically about how she always does and says the wrong thing. I hated the first episode because it was full of people being shitty to each other, and I get enough of that in real life. But my spouse thought it was funny, so we watched a few more episodes and it definitely got better. It's 2 seasons so far and it's on Netflix.
Do you feel like Avenue 5 got better as the season went on? I only watched the first 3 episodes so far, but even though I really want to like it, I wasn't particularly into it yet. I'll probably end up watching all of it eventually anyway, but I'm mostly just curious if you think it improves.
I felt it was consistently good, so if you haven't been impressed what you've seen so far, you probably will feel the same about the rest of it.
I think the early episodes are a bit harder to get into because there are so many characters, but at the season goes on you get more familiar with them and they become more likeable. I will say that it's important to go in with the understanding that it is not a sci-fi show.
I really like it. The first two episodes were a bit tricky, but I felt it got better after that.
I do struggle with the Judd character. I don't know if it's because it was miscast, or if there's something weird about the way he's written. I did manage to get over that.
I am a big fan of Iannucci, and also John Finnemore, so I think I was able to tolerate stuff I wouldn't have bothered with if it had been other people.
Better Call Saul is amazing! The transformation of Jimmy to Saul is a slow but beautiful burn. The characters are all great in their own unique way. You understand their motivations and choices, even when you know they will turn out wrong. The cinematography is beautiful. They come up with new angles to film from every episode and it's a joy to watch!
The Plot Against America from David Simon and Ed Burns, based on the book by Philip Roth, started last night and so far it's PERFECT! I'm not sure how this will seem for folks who haven't read the book, but I'm confident that it'll result in an unbelievably compelling story.
Here's the plot summary for the book:
If you can get this series, definitely tuck into it. If you're not feeling the first episode, wait six weeks and watch it all in one go. I'm certain it'll be yet another flawless work from these two.
Other than this, I'm dropping a lot of series because I'm simply overwhelmed by the amount of media I want to consume. Coronavirus or not, I just don't have as much time as I'd need to do these up. From here on out, I'm not going to watch anything based on recommendations. I'm 100% hunch :)
