Hopefully there are other MSTies on Tildes.
As a lifelong MST3K fan, I'm pretty excited about this. I'm glad they are moving forward with new episodes. The Gizmoplex sounds like a fun idea. I watched a few of the live streams they did over the past few holiday seasons and they were great. I think it's smart for them to control the whole thing, from creation to distribution. Netflix gave them a wider platform, but the MST3K overlords have aways had a very close and direct relationship with fans.
Even if the Gizmoplex aspect doesn't work out, I'd love to see more episodes. I didn't love every episode of the new seasons (I think the rapid fire riffing can be a bit much sometimes), they were still fun and updated the series in some interesting ways.
I went to all three live tours and as much as I liked Jonah and Joel, I thought the new host they brought in for the last tour, Emily, was great. I'm hoping she gets to be involved.
Note: Mods, I'm not sure what the rules are for linking to a Kickstarter, but I haven't seen any articles that give any substantial details. Feel free to change the URL if you want though.
If they make Emily the new host, I'm in 100%. She was witty and refreshing. I... am not a fan of Jonah. He seems nice enough, but I watched the entire season 11 and didn't even crack a smile once....

His delivery felt force and ill-timed. I don't know if he got better in season 12, but the crew in season 11 seemed too in love with itself, if that makes any sense.
I want MST to thrive, it's my all-time favorite TV series. And even though I'm more of a Mike fan than a Joel fan, I want Joel to succeed too... without him, we wouldn't have MST3K at all.

But maybe they haven't finalized a deal or something like that. I think having a female host, or even a rotating cast of characters hosting, would be fun.
I've never understood the Joel vs Mike era divide. I think they're both excellent, they just have different strong suits. Joel is great at taking a terrible movie and making it entertaining, while the Mike era was much more about cheesy 80s movies that weren't terrible, they were just B movies.
Here's a novel idea... two "human" hosts, in addition to the bots. I also don't get the whole "Joel v Mike" divide. I'll admit I like Mike better, but I don't hate Joel. The only problem I had...

I also don't get the whole "Joel v Mike" divide. I'll admit I like Mike better, but I don't hate Joel. The only problem I had with the Joel era were the kitschy elements that seemed to drag on, like the invention exchanges. Then again, that's expected when your show's star is a prop comic. We're lucky he wasn't Gallagher-esque, or every episode would feature fruit being smashed for no reason whatsoever.
Four people riffing at once seems like it would either be be a bit chaotic or leave each performer with less to do, but it would definitely be fun to see them try it out.

A few of the Rifftrax catalog have had guest appearances with 4 or more people participating in them. E.g. In Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Chad Vader joined Mike, Kevin and Bill. And a bunch of their live shows have also had guest appearances as well, some of them with even more than 4 people participating at once, and they have all been pretty decent too. That said, I also think 3 is the magic number though, for the reasons you already mentioned, and any less performers often feels a bit lacking in joke diversity.

They're also introducing multiple teams for multiple episodes. Emily will be doing episodes with the live Tom and Servo, Jonah will be doing episodes with the Netflix cast, and Joel might even do an episode.
$85 for a year of the Gizmoplex service and downloads of the new episodes and shorts is a bit of an ask for another streaming service with just one show, but I suppose if it comes with the MST3K and Cinematic Titanic archives, that's a bit of a value add.

The cancellation of MST3k was one of the driving factors for me cancelling Netflix. Not just that they cancelled a show I like but that the reasoning was people watched it one episode per sitting rather than binge watching as Netflix desired. The fact I was paying them for a service was not their business model, they had to attempt to gamify and manipulate my attention as does a slot machine or other scummy business.
Using this kickstarter to build an alternative platform based around community rather than exploitation is a great idea and I will be backing them with the money I've saved from cancelling Netflix.

We would snuggle up and enjoy ourselves. We love this show, it was so hilarious and fun. I loved all their sketches and it was a neat format to be introduced to.
Netflix needs to get their shit together. They keep canceling shows, so they have a bunch of half baked, unfinished works on their streaming platform, it's very annoying and makes me not want to try to watch their originals because you never know when it's going to be cancelled. I'm also hella salty about them canceling Santa Clarita Diet! Rude!

My understanding is that with each successive season of a show, they raise the bar for what the viewing numbers and engagement need to be. That is, season 2 needs to be even more successful than season 1 to renew a show for the third season. That makes it virtually impossible for a show to thrive long term.
That standard could actually be fine if they planning things out a bit more. The issue Netflix has is they don't provide closure for any of their shows. I'm fine with Santa Clarita Diet being a...
That standard could actually be fine if they planning things out a bit more. The issue Netflix has is they don't provide closure for any of their shows. I'm fine with Santa Clarita Diet being a two season show. But that has to be known by the writers and creators. Otherwise the end result for Netflix is literally a half baked show rather than something self contained that people can recommend.
And I cannot stress this enough: Fuck netflix for cancelling Santa Clarita Diet. It was the funniest show in recent times, the whole crew from actors to writers to directors and set and wardrobe and all of them did great, and Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo are future huge names in film (specifically comedy) and I will die on this hill.
Yeah I didn't think they would, unless it actually starts to impact their business. Which it won't :/ I will die on this hill with you!! Genuinely, so many great actors and such excellent work....

I will die on this hill with you!! Genuinely, so many great actors and such excellent work. The humor was spot on, I can't believe such a gem will be unfinished. So mad.
Hopefully there are other MSTies on Tildes.

The Kickstarter is in the last 18 hours, and could very well pass it's final stretch goal before their closeout livestream even starts.

Unfortunately, due to their business model and capitalism, they will most likely not change the way they do things: https://www.wired.co.uk/article/netflix-originals-cancelled-oa-altered-carbon-sense8?fbclid=IwAR3VOM6yMDCNgJ2sKCeq8AUg2ZiV--1Ke5iffUAmzZu5lmU4JTshViYGLoE

Update: They hit their $2 million funding goal in a little over 24 hours. Last time it took a week.
