  1. Comment on Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. in ~tech

Reddit has been slowly on the way out for me in some ways. Mainly the toxic political stuff and seeing things that I can’t un-see. I left Twitter a month ago and never looked back. I used Reddit mainly as a news reader, but from a mental health standpoint I’m much better off. I’m logged out atm, and I think I’ll delete my account on the 30th. I feel it’s the right thing to do. The main subreddit I follow is /r/stopdrinking as a tool for my sobriety and I’ve just started on a sober app that feels like a good replacement. Im 666 days off booze today YAY! I’m enjoying what I see here on Tildes, and I am going to check out the AMA tomorrow out of curiosity. As an Apollo user for years it doesn’t sit well with me what’s happening to the apps that have contributed so much to them.

Went to a Dead & Company show last week so I’ve been listening to them along with some Bob Weir, Miles Davis and revisiting some lounge music with Martin Denny.

I think it’s a mix of both. Examples of good stuff that come to my mind quick are getting the word out during public emergencies (I live in a hurricane zone), raising money for certain causes, and giving artists/scientists the opportunity to expose their work to a global audience. The bad would be disinformation, scams that use fear to prey on vulnerable people their pocketbooks, and the whole filter obsession that has a negative effect on a young persons body image. These are just off the top of my head so I know it’s a subject with many layers.

Hi ! Longtime Reddit user, wife, grandma, avid birder, sober, homeless advocate, horror movie & true crime fan. Love the format here and I am looking forward to seeing how it grows. This platform reminds me a little of the early days mid 1996-1998 when I participated in bulletin boards, no major toxicity or bombarding/intrusive marketing. I love the flow of information, just not weeding through a bunch of garbage or dangerous tin foil (not counting the fun tin foil). I think social media has its value for some things, but IMHO its poisoned the well of discourse, debate, and has negative effects on mental health across all age groups. Lately I've been using the daytime to access social media/information, but at night I focus on book reading, chores, movie watching or texting/chatting with a friend. Its done wonders for my sanity. I'm excited to see how Tildes evolves, so thanks and have a great day. :)

Just started Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart. Not my usual genre but was highly recommended by my sober group.
