Like, it's fiiiine as a pretty standard blockbuster treasure hunt action flick, but dammit, USE THE UNCHARTED THEME. They used it once, for like 3 seconds. There were so many moments where it would have fit so well, and they squandered those opportunities. So yes, they really should get some incredible score-work for Zelda; it'll go a long way to helping make a solid product.
Related to that, have you ever heard Sam Dillard's Zelda Cinematica album? He's a composer that does cinematic scores derived from popular properties. His Zelda one (and honestly, all of them) is very good.

The art is even stronger than season 1, and the story is interesting so far, especially seeing the party deal with that prick of a mage.
I also just started an oldie, Hajime No Ippo. As a (casual) fan of boxing and boxing flicks, I'm greatly enjoying it. It's a lot of fun, has some really likeable characters, and I'm honestly very impressed by the animation for how old it is. I think I'm gonna enjoy this one.

The fiddle starts about halfway through -- it's almost like a different movement within the song -- and man, it is beautiful. Has that old Irish-American folk sound to it, and the rest of the orchestra complements it perfectly. Worth a listen, though it can be tricky to find (I don't think the soundtrack is on Spotify, for instance).
Edit: I was wrong - the whole album is there! Huzzah!

Out of energy, especially after the days I had to work while still under the weather, and it means that I just haven't had enough umph to get things done.
I still wanna see what I can get done these last couple days, but I'm not holding my breath to have a finished, or even very complete, project by then.
It sucks, 'cause I started with energy and high hopes, but things just didn't work out well. Such is life sometimes. I'm still psyched to see what others show off though.

Week 1 was a total wash. Work was crazy, I was tired, and I got absolutely nothing done beyond some brainstorming and research on what kinds of materials and tools I'd need.
Week 2 went better. I got my design sketched and divided based on layers, and I bought the wood I'll be using. I'm going with basswood ply; I've read that it's good for this kind of fine cutting. I need to grab a jigsaw and a couple other tools tomorrow (money was too tight this last week to swing it til payday today), but I'm excited to start actually cutting and making real progress.

As for mine, the story's not that exciting. My roomies in college (my first time around in college) gave me the name by mashing mine up with a character from a popular (at the time) video game.

It's like what people do in shadowboxes -- multiple layers of wooden cutouts to emulate depth in a scene. Something like this.
Anyway, the scene I want to do is the streets of Yarnham, from From Software's Bloodborne. Gothic building cityscapes for the background layers, maybe some beasts and a hunter too. It'll be a highly simplified version -- I don't own a band saw -- but it should be fun to try out!

Picked up Crunchyroll on a whim last year, and have been enjoying finding gems among the mountains of mediocrity. Okay, let's see...
Darling in the Franxx is pretty good, though it is a little strange. A sci-fi that explores human sexuality and intimacy in a way that I found refreshingly smart for an anime. Good characters, too.
I don't watch many long-form action animes anymore, but Yu Yu Hakusho remains my go-to for them. It helped define the modern shonen genre along with DBZ, but in a way that's more interesting than the latter. While there's plenty of punching and laser blasts to go around (coupled with stylish art), there's also a great coming-of-age story with some wonderful character moments.
My Hero Academia is another one that's long-form, but keeps a good pace. And I also happen to think it's redefining the action shonen genre again -- in a very good way. Overall, lives up to the hype.
Kill la Kill just oozes style. It's a very weird, very stereotypical anime premise -- girls fight using super-powered transforming school uniforms (that get very, uh, revealing) -- but it really shines in its unique art style and top-notch animation. It's odd, quirky, and takes risks that don't always pay off, but it's pretty damn cool.
Horimiya. I'm a sucker for a good slice-of-life anime, and this one is full of warmth, love, and relatability. A girl and boy who go to the same school learn that their reputations are wildly different from their at-home personalities, and their mutual curiosity blossoms into a real relationship. Great character development and relatable stories in each episode.

Hollow Knight. An amazing soundtrack for an amazing game. The main theme, City of Tears, and Dirtmouth tracks are instantly recognizable to me. Usually touched with melancholy (which is fitting) and masterfully written.
Ori and the Blind Forest. Much of this has a Celtic-inspired timbre that captures emotional highs and lows so well. I haven't heard a VG soundtrack that makes me feel so upbeat and then can swing to mournful so organically. It's legitimately one of the most beautiful symphonic works I've ever heard -- which is even more amazing because I've played very little of the actual game.
When I wanna either a) have some zen studying tunes, or b) feel like I'm about to face demons and gods in battle, I turn on the Skyrim soundtrack. I contend, to this day, that the "Song of the Dragonborn", ie the main theme, is one of the most hype songs a in video game. "Ancient Stones" is another favorite -- so ethereal.
Bloodborne's soundtrack is perfect if you want some crazy sounding gothic horror. "Ludwig's Theme" is a mad waltz, and the blaring brass and frantic sawing strings in the boss music for Father Gascoigne is incredible. The rest is filled with spooky soprano descants and choirs singing clashing harmonies. It's worth a listen if you're in the mood to feel unsettled.
There's a million more I could name (I love this topic), but I'll leave it there for now.

I'm a veteran of WoW (mostly original WotLK and before) and The Old Republic, and I'd always heard about GW, but never tried it. It's proving pretty fun so far (though I am, by no means, deep into it yet) -- familiar enough that I'm not totally lost, but with enough unique mechanics and lore that I'm having that fun "figure it out as you go" experience. I really like that every race can be every class (from what I saw) -- that kinda freedom is always nice. (Also, shameless plug, but @ICN was really quick to shoot me a guild invite after I asked; so if you wanna join us, we'd love to have you along!)

But my roommate and I decided to give it a shot on my Crunchyroll account, and boy, am I glad we did.
I'm not really a CG anime kinda guy because it's usually so flat and lifeless, but the folks at Studio Orange know what they're doing -- Trigun Stampede is remarkably lively and expressive. And it's got enough familiar beats to draw in a fan of the original, while also deviating and delving deeper in interesting ways. Plus Johnny Yong Bosch reprises his role as Vash and still kills it.
It's not perfect (weird pacing at times, some unusual changes to some characters), but I'd say it's worth checking out. You might be like me and love it.

In my younger years, I definitely had the preconception -- one I think many modern people have acquired from movies and video games -- that plate armor was heavy, and therefore slow.
Then a major international jousting tourney was held near my hometown when I was a teen, and my dad bought tickets. Between the morning and afternoon sessions of the jousts, they held a foot combat contest. These dudes in 60 lbs of plate and mail were like lightning. They were so fast that it was hard to process the action at times. I was blown away.
It's one of those things that has always reminded me how truly deadly these men trained for war in the pre-gunpowder days were (not to say firearm soldiers aren't incredibly capable, of course). When your body is the source of power for your weapons, your armor has to hamper it as little as possible.

Are you familiar with Mass Effect? I'm 90% sure it drew inspiration from UQM. Anyway, the game is a space exploration/resource management/ship-to-ship dogfight venture with a fabulous story. If that sounds like a game that doesn't know what it wants to be, don't worry -- somehow, it alls blends together in a very satisfying way. The scale of the game is shockingly huge for a game from 1990 (hundreds of stars on the starmap, most of which have a system to explore). The combat is simple, yet highly nuanced (each ship has its own unique movement and weaponry). The characters are so interesting and likeable.
If that sounds like a good time, there's a solid fan remaster from 2013 called The Ur-Quan Masters HD. I'm pretty sure you can still find it on Sourceforge.

Comment on Mysterious, thoughtful games? A genre I can't define in ~games
Clabsmodan I knew something didn't look right about that title. Thank you for correcting me.I knew something didn't look right about that title. Thank you for correcting me.
I'm not sure if this is actually a popular one, but I rarely see it mentioned in rogue-like threads, but I can't recommend Skul: the Hero Slayer highly enough. It's a side scroller rogue-like in which you play as a little skeleton warrior going to rescue the captive Demon King from the human armies. The hinge mechanic is that you can swap your skull for other skulls that give you new move sets and skills (like a werewolf skull or a Dark Paladin skull). Coupled with the items you pick up, they can synergize in really interesting ways.
It's challenging, fun, and a good way to kill 30+ minutes. It's published by Neowiz (Lies of P anyone?), and it's only $10 right now. Give it a try if you like rogue-likes!
