Tildes multiplayer games
I think the population of the site has likely grown to the point where we could get some multiplayer gaming going. While I don't currently have anything in mind, I figure there will come a time when I do so I thought I'd try to get things rolling.
So, what multiplayer games would you like to try but lack the people for? What is your general availability for playing? Is there anything else people need to be aware of? Interest permitting, a recurring thread may be appropriate, though the exact interval would depend on the level of interest.
Rock and stone
That's referring to Deep Rock Galactic, for those confused by it. ;)
For rock and stone!
Did someone say Rock and Stone!?
Rock and stone in the heart!
If you don’t rock n’ stone, you ain’t comin’ home!
Rock and stone forever!
I'm down! Oh, wait, "good"? Sorry for bothering you. But seriously, $40 is a little steep to just drop on a game. Any let's plays/reviews you can recommend?
Thanks! I'll check it out.
Alright I pulled the trigger. Let me know if you're ever down to play.
I was surprised how much interest in Guild Wars 2 there was here after a couple threads. Do we have enough people for a small guild?
Oh right, I've got a GW 2 account. On the US servers, is anyone interested in a dungeon or strike night in the evening? Can probably make most days work except Friday and Sunday personally.
I play GW2! I asked somewhat recently if people play but didn't get many responses. I'd be interested in more in-game friends if people want to connect.
So there's enough interest for a guild (you can even make a solo guild, and everybody can belong to up to 5 guilds), just need a name and a tag to get started, since everything else can be changed later. I like the running joke of there being no official name for Tilderinos, so to avoid settling on something I'd propose the name "Guildes". Tags are 4 letters (not numbers or special characters) appended to a character name in brackets (so "Character Name [Tag]").
Please put up your guild name or tag ideas and once we've settled on one we can get things rolling.
Love the name Guildes! I just checked and alas we can't have ~ as the tag.
I'm based in the EU, and I suspect with any games in this list there'll be a EU/US divide. Just saw this thread for a game night discord server. Could be a good way to organize.
Alright, made a guild for the North America servers. Message me with your GW 2 account name for an invite (Using Tildes for the message instead of the in game mail system because the latter is limited, and I don't want anyone falling through the cracks). Went with GLDS for the tag, since I don't mind it looking a bit like Glados, and if anyone does we can reform the guild easily enough.
Anyone in the EU should feel free to start their own chapter on those servers, since unfortunately there's no crossplay between the two.
What server is the guild on? Like, specific server not cluster.
Jade Quarry, but that only matters for WvW, and at some point even that might change.
Yeah, I'm pretty much an exclusive WvWer. No worries, was just curious! If I see any of you on the battlefield, I promise to kill you very gently.
"Guildes" is fabulous. The tag, uh....hm. Maybe GLDS? (That kinda looks like Glados, actually.) TLDU? I wish I could put H on the end of that one, but it could still work.
I haven't played a lot myself, but I have an account, and I'm down to get back into it!
I've never played Guild Wars 2, but I've always kinda been interested. Is it still free-to-play monthly?
It never had monthly subscription, neither GW2 nor its predecessor, GW1. It was always buy to play, and they get recurring revenue from expansions and a mostly cosmetic shop.
Now you can play the base game (without expansions) for free, and then upgrade with any expansion. The limitations for free accounts are mostly chat and commerce based to avoid spam accounts.
It sure is! According to their site, the entire "core" game is available for free, but if you purchase the "core" game or an expansion, you get some bonuses. More info after the jump!

Aw man. I used to love playing that game, but I no longer have a computer with a dedicated graphics card!
Rocket League is an oldie but a goodie, and a ton of casual fun.
I'm up for Rocket League if anyone wants a teammate who kind of sucks (can't orient myself in mid-air!) Love the game, but rarely play it because public games can get pretty toxic and stressful.
This is pretty much the level I'm at as well!
Rocket League is one of the few games I've put hundreds of hours into... and I'm still not that great.
Nevertheless, I am also down to play if we can get a group together. I usually play doubles, but anything would be cool.
Rocket League is a game I’m actually slightly above average at! :)
I'm up for some too! If we can get something going, I'll be there for it :)
Also down for rocket league! I'm diamond/ champ but down for casual, or perhaps we could find a few people to mess around on custom maps!
Always down for a good game of Civilization or any 4x game really. I personally like to play with as random start as possible to keep it interesting for everyone.
I still come back to good old Civ5 every once in a while
For everyone, I have made an unofficial Tildes Game Nights Discord Server, with dedicated channels for some of the suggestions with more votes in this thread. If you like the form factor of Discord for playing games, stop by :)
I just picked up Remnant 2 and would love to find people to play it with. I'm EST and could probably playing evenings.
I'm also always game for a coop campaign on Total War: Warhammer 3.
I loved th first one on game pass. Was looking at the 2nd one today
Haven't had a chance to play a ton but it seems better than the first game.
After about 40 hours of playtime, me and my friend are currently trying to beat the final boss. I loved the first game, and I would say that Remnant 2 is a better game. The first game maybe had a more memorable story and better bosses, but all in all the new one is a solid update and refinement on the formula.
If you are planning to co-op online on PCs and some of you have the game on Steam and some on Epic (in some regions it's much cheaper on Epic), here are some tips on how to crossplay, based on our experiences:
Or that's at least how it's worked for us so far. These things weren't documented anywhere in the weekend and it took us quite a long time to figure this out.
Played a lot of Remnant 2 over the weekend. It's great.
Agreed, basically everything I wanted out of the sequel so far.
Nice, what's your favorite faction/factions in WH3?
HE and Tzeentch are probably what I play the most. Greenskins are a fun occasional change of pace and I enjoy the Chaos Dwarves DLC although it would have been nice if their start positions had a little more variety.
You?
It's hard to narrow it down, most factions are fun and interesting. My top three have to be Dwarfs, Skaven, and Chaos Dwarfs. Empire is really fun as well, as is all the chaos factions. It's easier to say which are the most boring factions; Lizardmen, Cathay and DE. Love the units of both Lizardmen and Cathay, but the faction mechanics are just...bland. Same with DE, but I also don't like their units.
Do you know when the next DLC will release?
Yeah Lizardmen definitely need a faction rework. For Cathay I suggest using a mod that permanently keeps them in balance. Not worrying about ying or yang made them a lot more fun to play. I could never get into DE but actually had a little bit of fun with the recent slave work. It's just anytime I play them I'm reminded of how much more I like HE units and start another HE campaign.
I don't think we have a release date yet. I don't believe we have more to go on then the roadmap CA released.
Yeah, I love Lizardmens army, but hoo boy, their faction mechanics need to be reworked. I'm okay with Ying and Yang, but their faction mechanics feel lackluster. It feels like they were the testing ground for new mechanics, and are therefor somewhat half-baked. But yeah, DE is just half naked HE units, with less fun mechanics.
Ah, haven't been on reddit since June, so am kinda lost on news updates. Reddit Total War sub was a shitshow a lot of the times, but it had a lot of good info.
No need to go on Reddit, but they put the roadmap on Steam instead of their own website for some reason.
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1142710/view/3127191325136532108?l=english
4.0 is coming "this summer" which at this point probably means August.
Cathay's units are fun to play with so having it constantly in balance made it more fun to play with and it meant I researched more techs then just the middle path.
There are few things I enjoy more than blasting hundreds of Slaven with Lord Kroak or dinosaur heavy armies smashing into enemy lines. Their armies are a blast. The geometric web is just so meh.
Yeah I like Cathay units, they all look cool. Their higher tier units look amazing, and really gives the feeling of being elite units.
Exactly. Lizardmens heroes are also really cool, and really powerful. Having a saurus veteran on a carnosaur is amazing. What time zone are you in? I might be up to play co-op if you want (and I have the time. Having a two year old really cuts down the free time aviable).
True store, Lizardmen heroes get silly powerful with their mounts.
I'm EST. You?
No kids for me but I work shift work so my availability to play can be random. If you're on Steam my friend code is: 45431339
Swedish, so CEST. But sure, if you work shift it might work 👍
Hah, 7 hours difference. Well, it would work on my days off. I'll message you sometime on Steam to try and figure it out.
Sounds good to me
Trying to get back into EVE myself, would be nice to have other folks to learn with!
Seems like a good game for a big forum, too. Free accounts can participate in meaningful ways, there's stuff to do asynchronously from other people while still working together, yet you can still fleet up to do things together if enough are online and interested.
Agree, I finished some of the early missions and would love some advice on what to do next, I am very lost
I'm in! Kicked the addiction some time ago, but I'll take another hit.
We had a Valheim server but it was shut down by the creator managing it as they no longer wanted to bear the cost of hosting and I don't think they even post here anymore.
For anyone interested, I still have the save data from the server. If anything it's a nice little piece of history from a few years ago. Tildes Town still looks great! (I'm still proud of my Helm's Deep-esque wall surrounding our little sea-side village)
I intend to return to World of Warcraft Classic as soon as Official Hardcore releases. Probably in the Horde, US realm. Schedule is flexible.
I currently play on Grobbulus realm, horde, just hit lvl 50 last night.
Grob is great bc I feel like since it's an RP realm people actually are invested in the world even if nobody actually does any RP much. And it's almost 50/50 for both factions so it really feels like classic did around 2010 or so.
I have played on Grobbulus. Pingwise it's playable but not very good for me. I had some good moments over there. The RP element is definitely not very strong, but it's there and it's nice.
Right now, I don't feel a desire to play Wrath anymore. It is focused on endgame, not so much the journey. You see people come and go but the social element pales in comparison to Classic Era.
After trying the Unofficial Hardcore in Classic Era, it is hard to go back. The world is alive, hyper social, random, exhilarating. Feels like the old days.
Official Hardcore will be a blast, I have no doubt! I'd be glad to meet you over there if you're inclined to do so ;)
I definitely think I'll be doing HC as an alliance character of some kind, not sure what yet though. Maybe a healer, I've never played a healer before, and a druid sounds like a lot of fun with all the different forms to mess around with even if you don't spec into them.
That's cool. I have played Alliance as well. Traditionally, Hardcore is more populated in the Alliance, which can be an issue when you are farming mobs and resources. That is the reason why I favored the Horde lately. But I could play Alliance.
We could make an interesting duo, such as a hunter and a priest, for example ;)
Me and the wife are currently playing NMS, although I suppose this is perhaps not too much of a multiplayer game. We've been playing FFXIV but taking a break from it currently.
I've also picked up Battlebit and enjoying it, after not touching Battlefield/CoD for... 10 years now? (WorldWar 3 doesn't count)
Seconding FFXIV.
I keep wanting to properly get into FFXIV but some years ago I had tried it and bought a bunch of expansions with the intention to play (which I ended up abandoning after not terribly long), so now I've got a character that hasn't passed the base game but I still need to pay for a subscription to play because I put money into the system so the free demo doesn't apply to my account any more.
I really hear fantastic things about the expansion content, but I just can't muster the focus it would take to plow through the base game to get to the good stuff at a minimal subscription cost.
The expansion content is amazing! I'm loving Shadowbringers, and I can't talk about Endwalker because I'm not there yet, but the path to get this far was indeed pretty grueling. I've heard they've recently trimmed the fat significantly from the 2.0 AAR and 3.0 Heavensward content to combat this issue.
When you say expansions are you talking about Heavensward and Stormblood and those? They're really continuations of the story, even if you could skip ARR you'd be missing a lot of context later. If you focus on the main story quests it goes pretty fast, though. I just played through it with a new character, I played through it in maybe two weeks of playing after work and all day on weekends. After that the story gets much better. Plus, once you're done with the main story, you can fly!
Ok, you've convinced me. I'll put in at least a week of play until Baldur's Gate 3 comes out. Then we'll see how much my friends want to play that as a group vs. solo.
I apologize in advance if you hate it!
I definitely advise focusing on absolutely nothing but the main story at least until you get your mount at level 20. Being able to ride places makes everything way less tedious. Conversely, don't use your free aetherite tickets. Teleport all you want, but pay cash. It's gonna get way more expensive later and you'll save way more gil in the long run if you use them later.
Guh. I typed up a whole nice long reply but lost it while looking up a big fancy word to use just to sound clever. Ah well, onwards to the abridged version since it's well past my bed time:
Thank you for the advice! I'm sure I won't hate it, I just need to force myself to focus on it instead of playing with background noise. I'll also focus the campaign as much as I can since I'm really after the story anyway. Extra features and jobs will have to wait, no matter how much the completionist part of my brain yells at me.
I'm just getting back into the game after a 2.5-year break. I'm in playing through the Endwalker expansion patches, but if you are on the Aether Data Center I have time to play EST evenings and will gladly run dungeons and raids for the content you're progressing through.
Genuine question, what do you do in NMS ? I’ve bought the game for $10 twice now (PS and PC), mostly based on the great reviews it gets and everyone saying they finally turned it into a flesh out, fun game. But when I boot it up and try to play, it just feels so… empty. The story is so vague and I have very little idea what I’m supposed to be doing, so I just end up running around aimlessly looking for whatever resource my current ‘quest’ wants.
I feel like I’m playing it wrong, just based on what I’ve heard about it vs my experience, but it feels really confusing and hard to get into 😅
Anyone for short session based games? Ultimate Chicken Horse? Worms Armageddon or WMD?
I like Ultimate Chicken Horse, if you get a group going for that!
Another casual, short game I'd enjoy is Duck Game.
I've been primarily playing the factory sim type games (Satisfactory, Factorio, Shapez, and now Techtonica) also with some Icarus & Valheim. Its mainly myself and one or two friends, but we wouldn't mind adding a couple people if anyone is looking for a home. Generally evenings and weekends Eastern and Central US hours.
How's tectonica? Any suggestions on a good video overview for it?
Techtonica feels like an odd mix of Satisfactory and Factorio slathered all over with neon vaporwave/synthwave aesthetics. Obviously its first person like Satisfactory, but everything is inserters and belts like Factorio.
I haven't really watched any videos or spoilers for it, so I can't recommend anything there. I originally played the demo some last summer, but it wasn't quite polished enough at that point so I set it aside. With the EA launch I went ahead and grabbed it and have been enjoying it. You can definitely tell its still an EA game (there are some flat component models when on belts), but playability is good. I haven't run into any real bugs at all. They encourage automation by making assemblers build twice the output so you're best off setting up a mall early even if you're hand-feeding materials. The storyline is interesting without being too invasive and seems to be reasonably polished.
This one isn't multiplayer, but based on the ones you listed I think you might enjoy it. It's like a combination of Terraria and Factorio. The demo is on Steam right and has hours of playtime built in. The dev said in the game's Discord that he will relaunch the Kickstarter for it soon.
AutoForge - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1960480/AutoForge/.
Maybe what we should really do is organize a Discord or TeamSpeak server for Tildes members only? Might be easier to organize some group gaming. I’d be willing to do it if there’s some interest.
Teeworlds could be fun, it’s a retro multiplayer shooter available on steam or directly on their website. The game works on all OS, is lightweight and free.
I've been playing teeworlds on and off since 2018 - I'd really love for this to happen.
I'd be keen, although I'll open with disclosure that I'm not going to be easy to schedule (work + grad school doesn't leave a lot of week).
I have always wanted to try a proper mil sim. I've played a bit of Arma 3 single player. Also got a flight setup suited to helis. Would love to have a squad to fly around from time to time.
I play Splatoon 3 mostly solo, occasionally with my partner, but I’d love to try to get into coordinated team play. I am not sure what the age demographic of Tildes is, but I’m an elder millennial and would like to play with people around-ish my age especially if you want to try using voice chat. For now I’ll just enter “tildes” as a pool name and if you wanna jump in the pool go ahead. I’m at work till this evening so I won’t be able to start the pool until around 6pm pacific time, but if you see me online feel free to join me. You’ll find me in the “tildes” pool, user name “sprank”
I think Minecraft has potential to be a lot of fun in multiplayer, especially with some quality of life mods added like the ability to teleport to your home and a central hub.
It's been years since I played the game but it's always been enjoyable to play with others.
There's one up and running now, check it out https://tildes.net/~games/18qt/tildes_minecraft_server_launch_java_edition_smp
Anyone interested in playing the old spaceship shooter + RTS Microsoft Allegiance? It's free on Steam and I can show people the ropes on weekends, Saturday or Sunday around 2pm EST. Once you have the basics it can be pretty fun to play as it is all team based. Pickup games last anywhere between 20-45 mins with some exceptions lasting longer/shorter than that.
I've been loving Ember Knights, which just came out of early access. It's similar to the old Gauntlet series (co-op game where you slay legions of enemies) but with some great improvements from the past 15 years of game design.
It's got a few performance hiccups on my (linux) machine, but I'd love to do some multiplayer. I'm mostly available evenings in American Eastern time.
If we need a place to organize, feel free to stop by my old Minecraft server's discord: https://discord.gg/T6zvUhsQ
It's relatively dormant and is mostly used for reporting, but feel free to set up shop! Speaking of which, if anybody feels like playing semi-vanilla Minecraft, the server is always open to visitors.
I'd personally be down to play anything save for Activision Blizzard and Ubisoft titles (and any other companies with incredulously glaring issues). Guild Wars 2, Minecraft, Deep Rock Galactic, Rocket League, whatever! I'm just beyond happy to have a group of people to even potentially play with.
A few options come to mind that I didn't see yet
Others I saw above that I agree with, GTFO, DRG, Satisfactory, Minecraft
I imagine this won't get much interest as the player count must be quite low, but Halo Infinite.
I've been a Halo fan since December 2001 and whilst Infinite is not as enjoyable for me as previous games, I do still enjoy playing the multiplayer from time to time. Unfortunately, I play solo nowadays whereas with Halo 3 I would be jumping on daily to play all manner of Forge creations.
The Forge in this game is the best in the series, but I can never really enjoy it with the Customs Browser. Would be great to join a group of people who play the game so I didn't have to play only multiplayer matchmaking, sweating in every match. I feel like Halo Infinite definitely is lacking the social aspect that other games had.
I'd also be interested in playing co-op if anyone would be interested, aside from one, the co-op achievements are all I have left for the game.
I'd be down to play any game really, I've always played a variety so I'd be fine doing anything from shooters to fighting games (trying to get good at them) and anything in between. Had to leave my gaming group recently (they weren't great people and I put up with it for too long) so just been catching up on some single player but always happy to jump online.
A game I'd love to play again: Misuterii High. I recently commented on another post about it and its predecessors, Mitadake High and Pyrce High, which is what got me to thinking about it.
It's an anime-inspired role-playing game with 16-bit graphics. The basic premise: Up to sixteen players are locked in a school (or some custom map), with one player being a killer. Rounds last from 6 PM to 6 AM in-game, with custom settings for hour lengths. Usually it'd be 5 or 8 minutes per hour, so rounds average an hour to an hour and a half. There are multiple modes, with the original featuring vanilla, Death Note and Nanaya (based on the Tsukihime series), so that gives you an idea of how it could go. Even after dying, you can watch, and there's a watcher chat and a regular chat. In-game, you can talk, shout, or roleplay actions.
The fun is in the role-playing. I have so many wild memories of it, like one round I had this subplot about defusing a bomb. Another round someone gave my character drugged candy (not really obviously, just role-play), which led to a chain of events ending with the memorable quote "Drugs lead to cannibalism". There's the Shiki/vampire round where I wanted some human to kill me, and the round where I was the killer and did an actual evil monologue at the climax before managing to kill the last survivor...
Mostly, I want the inspiration it gave me for story and character ideas. As a writer, it's just fun.
The main roadblock besides the long rounds: it uses the Byond engine, which is Windows-exclusive. So that limits people who can play. I primarily use a MacBook as it's the most convenient computer I own, so I'd have to boot up another computer to play it. That, and I remember having some tricky issues with actually hosting a server. No clue how that would go on my current Windows computers. If I got people willing to play though, I'd be more than willing to try sometime.
Easiest Archipelago suggestion of my life.
Archipelago is a multiworld randomizer that can be played asynchronously, and supports >30 different games. To put it simply: Player 1 can be playing Subnautica and scan an item, which instead of unlocking a blueprint it unlocks the "Battlecruiser" unit for Player 2 playing Starcraft 2. Player 2 beats a few campaign missions with the battlecruiser and unlocks the hookshot for Player 3 playing Ocarina of Time. Player 3 clears the Water Temple with the hookshot and unlocks a bunch of bonuses for Player 4 (playing Kingdom Hearts 2), Player 5 (playing Slay the Spire), plus a new armour set for Player 6 (playing Dark Souls 3). Goal is for everyone to beat their own game.
You can play either sync games (everyone is playing at the same time), or async games (everyone can log on and off whenever, and any items unlocked by others since your last session will just unlock for you as you log in next). A lot of games are supported - there's usually something for everyone. There's also no need to coordinate timezones or regions to respect latency - there's no reason you can't play with people on the other side of the world. So it's ideal for this sort of thing!
Minecraft is probably one of the safest options. Just bear in mind that some people (myself included) refuse to move beyond 1.19.1 due to the new chat policing system.
Any links to good info about the chat policing you refer to ? Haven’t touched Minecraft in ages.
Don't do hate speech or you could be reported even on private servers. Sooo scary.
But really, should they even have access to my private server? I don’t like this.
They do not have access to your private server; chat is not routed through Mojang. The player that makes the report uploads them with the reporting tool and messages are signed by the sender to prevent forgery.
Source
It's not your server they have access to but their multiplayer system. So chat runs thru both. They are banning the account from everywhere, not just your server. Though I do think they should make it possible to play on private servers without a Microsoft account.
It goes beyond hate speech.
From minecraft.net
I mean, things like hate speech and threats are a bit more cut and dry but when I've played games with friends I could easily see how our conversations could be considered as bullying or harassment towards one another. The only type of speech that you can get banned for and is elaborated on is hate speech. This goes a bit more than "don't do hate speech lol".
If I'm running a server and want to create and foster a certain amount of type of community, I should be able to run it as I see fit. If you don't like it, then leave and find somewhere else to play. What if someone blows up my base or steals from me? Am I not allowed to communicate my anger towards another player? Where's the line?
Bugger off with this nonsense please.(Way too aggro of me earlier, apologies @FeminalPanda)Mojang rolled out "anti-hate speech" filtering during 1.18 to filter what players could name items. It stopped people from making items with, e.g., anything containing the substrings "Japan" or "Night".
Because those phrases include "Jap-" and "Nig-".
If you trust a company like Mojang (and by extension, Microsoft) that puts trash like that into production to be a good judge of content on private servers, your head is in the sand. People can and will be permabanned for completely innocent things with zero recourse.
The Scunthorpe problem is a pretty common issue with filtering, so its not surprising it popped up in Minecraft too. But just because the filter is a bit too broad doesn't mean the banning process is, since that likely involves some human oversight. Edit: It does. Every report is investigated by a human. From the FAQ.
And also worth noting is that I just made an item called "Japan" and "Night" in 1.20.13 as a test, so they have clearly refined the filtering since 1.18.
Yeah, they do have humans in the loop for these bans, but they're gonna be using bottom-of-the-barrel contract labor for this, the number of daily reports will be a torrential stream, and they have to moderate several hundred global languages.
Not to mention moderation is a pure cost sink, meaning that any corporation is likely to underinvest.
Back of the envelope math with the following generous assumptions:
(10000000 * .04) / (16 * 160) = 156 reports to process per hour, best case scenario.
There's no way this can be done without a substantial number of false positives.
Sure you can appeal, but do you really trust Microsoft to do anything other than send a canned response back? Are you really gonna take them to arbitration for a $30 game? They know you won't, and will take advantage of that. Bad incentives all around.
E: And here's a good video showing off the filtering. Sure they fixed it, but letting that go live, and stay live for months, means I sure don't trust their organizational competence.
Thank you for the breakdown. I'm glad this was all fresher in your mind than mine.
The amount of faith people put in Microsoft/Mojang to act in their best interest is baffling. I didn't know about night being censored which is pretty hilarious for a game with day and night cycle lol.
I once realized I couldn't make a reference to the country of Nigeria in World of Warcraft chat. Pretty dumb, but I don't see how they could prevent bad stuff without doing that.
Lol, I figured it was probably something like that. Although I do think it’s wrong that you need a MS account to play private Minecraft, I don’t mind them banning people from their system for hate speech.
My understanding is this is a way to report behavior in Minecraft such that a player is banned from going into any multiplayer Minecraft experience (Realms, 3rd party servers, etc.). That makes sense for Mojang as, on PC, most multiplayer interactions take place on 3rd party servers. They don't want a controversy on their hands about pedophiles grooming children where their best reaction is "We couldn't do anything! It was always out of our hands!". The new chat moderation seems like a necessary evil for a massive company in their position. Will it be misused some small percent of the time? Yes. But I don't think advocating for a public boycott makes much sense.
I assume you can still run a server in "offline" mode if you really don't want anything to do with Mojang.
I haven't played Minecraft recently, but historically it would have been difficult to bypass these bans by running a server in offline mode because every common launcher was designed to require logging in to Mojang's servers before initiating an exchange with any third party server. In addition to running your server in offline mode, in order to not having anything to do with Mojang you'd need to modify a launcher to not authenticate your account at all (this then allows you to, technically speaking, play Minecraft for free, using the unmodified game executables freely downloadable from their public servers).
That said, after a bit of research it would appear that messages in servers running in offline mode are not signed such that Mojang moderators can distrust reports assigned to them, so that's not too bad. Since reporting is itself a direct interaction between the reporting player client and Mojang, I imagine mods that disable reporting use a similar strategy (fudging the message signatures to make them believably falsified).
But if you feel like you've (already) been banned in error due to an interaction that took place entirely in a third party user-run server not under your control, I imagine the said ban can still affect your ability to engage with the game in a different environment, including online mode servers under your control, where you (obviously) would normally be welcome.
There's server side mods / plugins that disable chat reporting on their end. Coupled with the client-side equivalent you'd be totally fine.
